I've noticed a few members have the S ultravision series (i.e. 57S500 or 700). Have any of you compared the S to the F series(i.e. 57F500)? I have done searches and can't find a whole lot of info. If anyone has websites that have a lot of RPTV info, I would really appreaciate it!

I don't know the details, but I have seen the F and the S side-by-side, and the S picture looks much better(more crisp). I recommend the 57S500, I have the 700, but I never use the built-in tuner since Time Warner gives you an HD tuner that you have to use regardless of your tv.

I compared both recently - go with the S; it's a better picture, but the F was also most excellent. Hitachi has really been doing its homework as of recent.
A co-worker bought the 57" S and is running Signal Cable component video and a Denon 1200 and it's an outstanding picture."What we do in life echoes in eternity"

You can go to Hitachi's web site and compare spec's, but yes, the S series is superior to the F series. I used to have the spec's memorized, but it's been awhile. If you are looking for the best info regarding your question, I would recommend checking out the AVS Forum @ www.avsforum.com under the link to RPTV's then do a search for Hitachi or a particular model number. Those guys are always up on the lastest in whats hot. When I purchased my 51S500, AVS Forum is where I got most of my info. Hope this may help.

The F series uses a 4 element gun while the S series uses a 5 element gun. The S series uses an anti-glare screen protector while the F series tends to get more glare using a cheaper protector. The S series also has a multimedia card slot on the front for viewing pictures off a digital camera. We bought my Dad the 51F500 as a birthday gift and it looks amazing. I work for a large retailer and got it at cost so that's the only reason he got such a nice gift LoL! If you have light control in the room I'd say save your money and get the F series; if light is a problem I'd go with the S series.
