Pink's latest release is broken :(

Just listened to The Truth about Love - Try and the clipping distortion is unbearable. The first few verses are okay, until the hard limiter kicks in and destroys the whole recording. Heck, it sounds better on my HTiB than any of my rigs because the Onkyo HTiB speakers hide the distortion.

DSP processors are so powerful these days yet the recordings get worse and worse every year. Unbelievable.

Here is a video for those who are not familar with the song.

Another one that makes my head unit sound like it's broken:

At least when the limiter kicks it feels like someone turned down my radio 2-3dB.

The worst one of all, IMO:

It literally sounded worse on my friend's Kenwood Excelon HU playing HD Radio than my Alpine on FM, that was when I realized the higher end receivers really show the flaws of a signal. A $50 iPod dock sounded better.

    Are you kidding me???

Stronger is compressed all to hell, and so are both of the Bruno Mars CDs I've heard (don't remember the names of those). I have to deal with a dose of that music because my wife likes it and I'm the one in charge of ripping everything down to the media server and her iPhone. I run tests on every CD as I rip, and those all have BAD compression and lack dynamic range because of it.

Hey, to each his own, right?

I happen to like Owl City, especially after I took my daughter and her friend to see him (them) last year.
His CDs give new meaning and validation to the "loudness wars", but he's a heck of a talented musician.

    Carry on.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

No I'm not!! I didn't say it was the best I said I enjoy them. If I took everything I listened to to the audio geek way of listening I would spend more time searching for music that meets these standards then actually listening to just music.. I got board and tired of it, it can get exhausting and take away from some of the enjoyment of just listening..

Don't get me wrong I have my favorite recordings and they will continue to grow. But at the same time I also just want music in the house that I don't sit and nit pik to death..

I have no control over how they are mastered, but I do have control over not beating it to death on how bad it is, and when it's mastered real well I can be very surprised and pleased..

Also everyone's rig/gear speakers and what not are all different as well..

Also just because its not mastered to ones liking doesn't mean the story or message being told is bad..

The one thing I can say that I have hated about putting together a system that shines is that a lot of music that I always enjoyed listening to didn't sound so good anymore, especially some of my favorite metal and punk bands.. Well I want to enjoy them so I find the time to do so as well as much as I like to do critical listening..

As stated above to each his own..
