Went to buy new speakers, need to figure some things out first.

So it looks like the 901 Active Equalizer needs to be connected to one of the tape loops as steveinaz suggested. However, I have Zone 2 speakers (Polk R15's in the patio) and the Denon AVR-5800 only passes analog sources to the Zone 2 outputs. Meaning, the source on Zone 2 must be analog because the Denon only has one DAC chip. I am looking at the user manual right now and apparently when using the tape connectors, all signals are affected. Really want to make this work, any ideas?

Only thing I can suggest is inserting the EQ between your...wait you don't have separates...

Gotcha. Looks like a DIY full range speaker will be my next choice. I don't like the sound of crossovers.
I am thinking something like a line array with full-range drivers from Parts Express.polkaudio RT35 Bookshelves

Yeah without separates or a tape monitor loop, you can't incorporate the EQ into the mix.

The Bose EQ would be affecting all speakers, you don't want that. 901's are bult for 2-channel.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

Not sure what your taste in music and spl requirements might be, but for SFRD DIY, you might look at http://www.planet10-hifi.com/ and related sites. Also, many DIYers hang out at DIYaudio.com . They have a section for SFRD building under: Loudspeakers>Full Range.
If you aren't yet familiar with design and construction of speakers, I would recommend going with a proven design. As you get into it deeper, you may want to look at sites like Martin King's http://www.quarter-wave.com/ and consider developing your own design.

I'm 2 channel with a second audio zone. Once in a while I'll experiment with rear speakers, but find it to be unnecessary. They are not connected right now. I listen mostly in the "Pure Audio / Pure Direct" modes.Jim Shearer wrote: »Not sure what your taste in music and spl requirements might be, but for SFRD DIY, you might look at http://www.planet10-hifi.com/ and related sites. My preferred sound would be a little de-emphasis of the bass and a rolled off treble. I seem to be sensitive to high frequencies and don't like much bass. That's why I like the sound of full range drivers. No added distortion from the crossover transition points, and bass that doesn't dig too low.
My musical tastes are New Age, Classical, Smooth Jazz, and Easy Listening. Stuff that's generally not too "forward" sounding.polkaudio RT35 Bookshelves

If you like large scale classical, I would suggest looking at the mid-sized drivers, maybe the Fostex FF165wk. The 4.5" drivers do the highs a bit better, but they can get congested with complex music at more than modest SPLs. Take a look at Metronome and BIB designs (for which dimensions are available). I posted a set of dimensions for an FF165wk Met, but someone else posted an even better set--got a couple more Hz on the low end and even less ripple in the freq response.
Keep us posted on your progress!
