Rotel RX-404

My pal took a old school Rotel RX-404 out of his home and brought it over here to hook up to the PSB's I am letting him borrow for awhile. I hooked it up with some Monster speaker wire I have sitting around and used my spare CD player, a Arcam CD72 for the trial/test. We had to be sure everything works and here is what we found.
I gotta say it sounds great. It has a real nice warm tone to it and seems to have plenty of power to drive the PSB Alpha T Towers. I do not think the little RX-404 is a tube receiver but it sounds so rich and full I would not be surprised. A little static noise out of the volume and balance nob but not too bad. If you have any suggestions on cleaning up the contacts or whatever I need to do to clean up the static noise that would be great. I bought some de-tox or something like that with some brushes for my Christmas stocking gift awhile back maybe that will help.
More importantly it has a couple of lights out, one in a watt meter and one in the tuner meter.
I'd post pictures but I can't find the F'ing USB cable right now to hook up the camera :evil:
If I find the USB cable I'll post some pictures of the little dude later.
Thanks

Cool, vintage gear is always fun to play with, as long as it works properly and doesn't damage your speakers, although that was more my fault I guess . . found a semi helpful thread on AK, here. The guys rhetoric is a little odd, but he had the lighting issue too. I also found this, not very helpful, but makes for some funny reading. Rotel manual. Enjoy the receiver,

Looks like the hyperlink didn't work for the manual, so . .

If you're interested, its pretty easy to find with google . .Home TheaterRTiA5 - CSiA6 - FXiA6 - PSW650 - Pioneer Elite SC-55 - Carver AV-505 - Sony 46" 120Hz - Monster HP 2400 - Xbox 360 - Playstation 32 ChannelPolk RTA 15TL - Harman Kardon HK3485 - HK DVD48 - Signal Cable IC's and speaker cables -
Use some of the CAIG spray and pop the top to get a look inside. You may or may not have a good shot at the potentiometer assembly but you won't know unless you do. At the least, remove the front knob and nut that probably secures it to the front panel assembly and spray it down. Obviously not heavy, but enough to feel comfortable. Re-assemble and work the control around.
Also, make sure the rear connections are clean as well, speaker cables tight and if you can get some ProGold on all the connections, the better.
Everyone reading or ever needing this same issue addressed should seriously get then Caig Survival Kit to have handy. It's got all the items needed to take care of contacts and tweak them as well. It's like $35 and it'll last you for a couple years, even if you roll thru gear and clean up stuff for resale.
Good luck Drew.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
