Just a short entry to start off my semester. Enjoy!

http://paugustinos.blogspot.com/2012/01/xi-dorm-livin.html

As my mom dropped me off at school and headed back home, I could scarcely think about anything other than setting up my stereo. I had suffered through a weekend relying only on Apple earbuds borrowed from my brother. They sounded even worse than I remembered, and made me mourn the accidental breakage of my Sennheiser cans. Needless to say, I was ready for some beautiful sound.

With the help of my roommate, I wrestled the heavy MC-100B into place. Soon to follow was my stack of upstream equipment and my wonderful Tannoys. When all the cables, interconnects, and power cords were in place, I switched on my new Belkin power conditioner and let the whole system warm up a while.

My desk and bureau provided plenty of space for all my equipment and even afforded the Tannoys decent separation. I figured I would be listening mostly while studying at my desk, so I toed the speakers in a bit. For a few days, I listened casually to a good variety of music, including my newly purchased copies of Blind Threshold by Beats Antique and Between Good and Evil by Santana.

Visitor after visitor has come into my room and asked what manner of science project is sitting on my desk. Time after time I smile and explain that the monolithic transformers and glowing vacuum tubes belong to an amplifier, the beating heart of my stereo system. The same wonder they hold for the strange device is part of the allure of tubes that drew me away from transistor amplification.

Even with the less-than-ideal placement, the Tannoys imaged wonderfully. During some Saturday afternoon studying, the vocal of ?Indoctrination? by Delerium came to me from a well-defined source directly across my desk. I closed my eyes for a bit. I was totally wrapped up in the music, pulled along with the song?s momentum. The song made for a surprisingly rejuvenating study break.

    Hell yea, man.

Does your dorm-mate view your rig as a bonus or as a nuisance??? Hopefully the former... everyone like music, right?

Your a brave man for bringing that setup to the dorm. Good luck. Nice setup by the way. I would have left it safe and sound at home.

Nice bro, a true audiophile at heart. Just the fact that you know what good music is suppose to sound like, is music to my ears. Nice to see a young lad as yourself has an appreciation for tubes and sound quality in general. Rock on...

Wait till you come back from a night on the town or studying and half the dorm is in your room spillin' beer and f'n with your equipment. Some things are better left at home. Just my opinion, nothing more. Good luck.
If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money.

Thats when you start breaking fingers and kickin' some ****.....in my book anyway. You set the standards of conduct from the git go and those who don't follow receive the underside of your boot.

I'm pretty sure dorms nowadays have locks on the doors so I wouldn't be TOO worried about people breaking in and throwing a party in your room when you are not there... lol

Haha I appreciate the concern from all you guys, but I assure you my system is safe and sound. My roommate just happens to be my best friend, and the rest of the guys in our suite are fairly respectful of my space. Thankfully, my roommate appreciates my stereo (even though he doesn't fully understand it ;) ). We tend to keep the partying to the common room of our suite and out of our bedroom. There's just no way I could go a semester without my stereo!
