i have a shot at a MC2205 listed for $200.
thought i would use it with my pioneer receiver as a pre-amp to run my SDA1c's. if so, i would use the rotel rb980bx amp on my SDA CRS's.

good idea?
bad idea?
good price?
a lot of hassle i dont know about?

thanks in advance

Excellent price. You can have it "updated" by a high quality service shop for about $400, if you want to factor that in. That would cover new caps and adjustments if required. - greybeard

assuming it works as well as stated in the ad, i dont plan on spend any more money on it after purchase.

In the case of vintage amps, you can pay them now, or pay them later.
This is a premium blue meter 200wpc amp. Best to take care of it.
If not now, then start putting aside money for it. IT WILL hold it's value.

If thats the case, I would hold off on buying vintage gear then. Though the price of admission is cheap enough for you to resell and not lose a nickel should it go south.

You could buy it and easily make your money back and some, can't lose either way. Most of us will never own Mac gear, but a lot of us would like to. If you have the opportunity, jump . .

You are also doing a huge disservice by using an AVR as a pre-amp.

Probably not if it's in good working condition.

Get it. I'm using a refurbed 2205 right now as my primary amp and it sounds fantastic. Not my favorite (I like tubes) but it is no slouch by any standards. $200 is an excellent price, even if it need a once-over, which I would highly recommend. Enjoy!

a couple of caveats - the binding posts suck. I have some special Cardas cables that are made for the tiny screw down posts. It's something to think about. Also, the stock lamp-cord AC cable is crap. I had mine replaced with a much heavier gauge cord.

thanks guys...as it turned out, the unit was not in the same shape as advertised and would require a bit of money and patience for it to work properly...and thus i decided to pass on it

thanks for all of the input though
