NOOB's 1st set up
I have a CSi5, two RTi8's, a pair of FXi5's and FXi3's and two PSW505 subs. This will be going in a 13X19 size room. 50% movies, 25% music and 25% gaming. Will it be overkill to run two 505's? Should I run the 3's or the 5's on the side surround position? Should I sell the FXi3's and get another pair of 5's? Thanks for any and all help!

That should be a pretty cool setup! Run the 5s for surrounds. 2 subs is not overkill in a room that size. What's powering all of that?
Oh, and welcome to Club Polk. -
I will be running at least 7.1 so run the 5's as the side channels or rears? I was looking at the Yamaha RX-A2010 and 1010 receivers. I haven't bought it yet so I am open to suggestions. Thanks for the welcome and suggestions!

EDIT: I see you run a Yamaha Aventage receiver. Can't wait for your reply!Yamaha RXA2010 Aventage

FXi5s on the sides - just my opinion that the side surrounds seem to see more action than the backs. I could be all wet on that, though. 7 speakers is a lot for any AVR to run all on its own, but I think the 2010 could manage, as long as your volume expectations are not unreasonable. The 8s themselves don't present a huge load themselves, and that's a plus. However, the center and surrounds you chose are the larger ones in the series. Having two subs will be a plus, as you can set your crossover around 80Hz and take a bit of the load off your AVR.
As always, everything will sound better with external amplification. If you think you'll go that route, you might want to consider saving a few bucks and going with the 1010. I like my AVENTAGE... a lot. -
As the thread states, I'm really new to this. What would your recommendations be for running a 1010 and external amplification? Going that route what channels would you run off of the 1010 and what would you pre out to the external amps? Thanks again!

Something like this Adcom, maybe... http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?ampsmult&1327965523&/Adcom-GFA---5503---3-channel--
or this Acurus: http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?ampsmult&1328942498&/Acurus-200-x3-power-amplifier-
There's also Rotel, B&K, NAD, etc...
Also try looking around on Craigslist, e-Bay, etc...
If you had larger towers in the front, you could probably get away with amping just the left and right, but with that big center (and that's a good thing), I'd look for at least a 3-channel amp, if you come across a deal on a 5-channel (sometimes easier to find), that would be nice, too. -
Thanks for all your suggestions mdaudio! I ended up just buying a RX-A2010. I think it will work well for my first HT set up. BTW I do happen to have another pair of RTi8's for a total of four. Would it work to run the RTi8's for the rear surrounds and the FXi5's on the sides? Or go the other way around, towers on the sides? I know I'm asking a ton of questions, but I have never had a system before and I haven't heard anything other than the "HT in the box" type. I just need to hook this stuff up and get my feet wet! Thanks again!
