I have a Denon 1911 reciever with a bose 10.1 setup, and I just bought a NAD CD player and wanted better music from a floor speaker setup so I bought the RTiA7's (with free upgraded sub PSW125) and really love the sound.

I'm thinking now of adding a CSiA4 center channel (CSiA6 are just to big for my TV stand setup) and the FXiA4's and wonder if my reciever can handle all of this for a home theater setup?
Or would I need a amp?
2 ch- Polk CRS+ * Vincent SA-31MK Preamp * Vincent Sp-331 Amp * Marantz SA8005 SACD * Project Xperience Classic TT * Sumiko Blue Point #2 MC cartridge

HT - Polk 703's * NAD T-758 * Adcom 5503 * Oppo 103 * Samsung 60" series 8 LCD

Reciever will not do speakers justice. Bad news is you can't add an amp to that reciever. No preouts. Would not recomend all those speakers on that reciever. More harm done by under powering them than over power. A7's will be ok (by themself) but IMO i would not get the rest of them (csi a4 & fxi a4) till i could power them.

Your receiver can handle it, but not to optimal levels. In surround mode your probably pushing 60 watts per channel in a 5.1 setup, less than 40 in 7.1. As long as you keep the volume down and don't crank it too loud, you should be ok. But then, whats the point of having big floorstanders if you can't give them a go every so often.

    Thanks for the info

The more I've read here the more I see how little I know

I Will only be using a 5.1 setup, and even after a lot of reading I'm not sure what AVR is out there that will push this set-up nicely. as the denon 191 says it has seven seperate 90 watt amps but I take it that it really doesnt put out that wattage? and how does one figure out how much power each speaker needs?

think I'm over my head again

eh, don't discount your receiver just yet. When you want to listen to music you can run full range in 2 ch mode and it should sound fine(pretty much what you're doing now). More power would be better, no doubt, but the 1911 shouldn't dissapoint you either. When you switch to a 5.1 mode for movies, set all speakers to small and set the crossover somehwere 80-100hz. The higher the better, as this will make better use of the power that your receiver puts out, but of course there is a point of dimiishing returns. Your ears will pick the right frequency to cross at. You really shouldn't have your speakers lower than 80hz for HT anyway as most speakers can't do lower frequencies much justice. I think as long as you don't try to make your speakers play too low in frequency when in 5.1 mode, they should sound pretty darn good with the power they get.

That's the trick I used to run my m70s off of an onkyo 608 and it worked out fine (I crossed mine at 100hz on this setup). I let my big 12 inch sub do all the heavy duty low frequency stuff. This may cause you to want a nicer sub, but your speakers should sound fine.

You can always upgade the receiver later if you think your not happy with what you have, but this would be my approach if I were in your shoes, as I think with these tweaks you can make the best of what you have and still have a nice sounding system.
