Improving Power and Sound on my TSi500's

Hi All,
Just want to gauge the forums opinion if there's something I can do to push my TSi500 fronts better when listening to music
VSX-1020-K
POWER
Amplifier Design - Direct Energy
Channels - 7.1
Power Output Per Channel(20Hz-20kHz,.08%THD@8ohm) 80
Power Output Per Channel (1kHz@8ohm) 110
Power Output Per Channel (1kHz@6ohm) 125
TSi500
Electrical
Overall Frequency Response 28Hz-25kHz
Lower -3dB Limit 38Hz dB
Upper -3dB Limit 24KHz dB
Nominal Impedance 8 ohms
Recommended Amplifier Power 20-275 w/channel
Efficiency 91 dB
Crossover 2500
Inputs 5 way binding posts
Seeing as how my AVR can only hit 125 w per channel, will using a DAC push closer to the 275ish range? Will that make sound quality better? Can anyone make recommendations to improve my overall setup/feedback.
Thanks ALL!

Am I missing something here? How does adding a DAC increase power? The only way to get more power is to add a power amp IF your receiver has pre-outs to add one. From what I see your receiver is only rated @ 80watts and can only hit that magic 125 @ 1khz and that would probably asking it to do too much i.e. clipping and distortion.

A dac doesn't increase power first off. Second, for surround duty that receiver isn't even comming close to 100 watts, more like 60 in 5.1 surround. Third, the only way to add power is if you had a receiver with preouts to add an amp, which yours doesn't. To improve the sound with what you have, look into the source your using and cabling. Fourth, your fretting over watts, don't. Your receiver is fine to drive what you have, but if you go any bigger or add more speakers, your going to push the limits. Can your speakers handle more wattage ? Yes, but you have no way of getting it to them with that receiver.HT SYSTEM-

Hey tmartin,
I was in the same boat as with a little while back. Had the 1020k and the 500s. I loved the sound coming out but I wanted more.
First problem you have is the 1020k doesnt have pre outs, so your stuck with the power that it has. Which is NO WHERE near 125wpc. You might get something closer to that just running the front left and right, but its not consistent.
Second problem (well sorta) is that your going to have to upgrade your receiver if you want any kind of power/sound upgrade. Buying higher end speakers wont do much without the power to push them.
Your best bet is to do what I did. Look for either a receiver that has pre outs (sell the 1020) or buy a sc-37; I got one open box for a great price and Ive loved the hell out of it. With the Ice amps inside, it really pushes the 500s better then the 1020 ever did, and its good for 140wpc. And with the 37, I can (and plan to soon) run an external amp.Home Theater Setup- Receiver - Onkyo TX-RZ1100

The 1120 only puts out 47wpc with 5 channels driven, the 1020 is even less.
