Post pictures of blown tweeters, Drivers, xovers, amps, power supplies, or anything else that just took a $hit after 30 years of use. I'll start...

015.JPG

I find it EXTREMELY hard to believe that the gurus have NEVER blown a driver/tweet.
If that was the case the tweets/drivers wouldn't have been replaced so many times the holes are stripped and ultimately need Larrys rings.

Anyway.... fun pics to follow I hope. Painful and probably expensive but fun. Can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs boys!

Save the, "That wouldn't happen if you didn't abuse things", comments...we all know the reasons but do it any way.
If you say you don't its like denying you ...

Enjoy!

The guru's know the limitations of their systems and never push their gear beyond those limits. Blown gear is for amateurs and those too wet behind the ears to recognize the error of their ways.

Larry's rings are not needed for stripped holes. They are needed to do a better job of coupling the drivers to the front baffle. Again if the rings were purchased because of stripped holes, you are an amateur.

I still say that was user error and you should have footed the bill. They were designed for hifi, not outdoor sound reinforcement.

Agreed 110%, and I stated it in that thread more than once. I would have happily paid for them. Polk CS is and always has been top shelf, and I am grateful to them. still looking to get my eras on the 703's at some point, and I would not be at all suprised to find a set of them in my speaker rotation soon just beacuse of the level of service they provide.

I wasn't going to lay blame aside from the actual facts but here it is. I am not familiar with the remote and changed from 2 channel at high volume to PL2 movie settings. Stuff happens but it's all in good fun.

Wow, you just don't know when to quit do you? I think some of us value our hearing more than to turn an amp wide open trying to blow speakers. I have never blown a speaker in all my years. Maybe I am not that cool though.....

Its a pic from awhile back of an actual eBay auction where the seller bragged about repairing the driver's brittle surrounds himself.

Oh wow. I really have no other appropriate words to say on that.

I've blown some tweeters in my younger days, and a few recently. I have a set of inexpensive Polk R150's (combined with a PSW650 sub) that I use for karaoke. Well, one night I was having an issue with one of my wireless mics (I think it turned out to just be a dead battery), but somehow I managed to blast some loud microphone feedback from the speakers and blew the tweeter in all three speakers. The speakers worked fine otherwise, but it sounded like you were listening to a 32k MP3 on them. I think what happened is I was playing with the levels on the mixer prior to figuring out the real issue and the levels were still all the way up when I figured out the issue. At any rate, I called Polk customer service and fully disclosed what happened. They were still nice enough to replace the tweeters under warranty. I was prepared to pay for them, but I guess my mother was right, honesty is the right way to go.

I've been using the speakers for karaoke since then (about 1.5 years), and haven't experienced any more problems thankfully.

Wow. Wouldn't you like you meet that person that did that, just out of curiosity? That picture is a classic.

No pic's but I poached a nice pair of SEAS woofers with an inadvertant wiring error in a DIY active crossover resulting in about 45 volts of DC reaching the driver.

No, just the pic. It has made its way around a few forums over the last few years, but everyone couldn't believe the way the guy ruined drivers that simply needed a refoam job with household caulking.

Nah he knew what he was doing, the caulking was added to damp nasty resonances in the paper cones.
