stand alone dac?

In the rescearch stage looking for a reasonably priced fax for my streaming of music. Need rca in/outs as I don't use a computer. Don't know if it reasonable to expect around 100.00/!50.00 price range or not. Any input would be helpfull as I'm not real up on external dac's . Don need it for my cd as it ( so I'm told) has a very good dac already so just for my Bluetooth " RECIEVER" for streaming. Thanks.

    What digital outputs does your Bluetooth receiver have? Coaxial, Optical, etc. Might be good to give us an idea of what brand/model of receiver you are talking about.

    No digital outs. Rca only. It just a blackberry gateway bluetooth, takes signal direct from phone to and converts to rca outs. I'm getting good sound quality now but think it would be improved if ran thru a dac before preamp. It ( I believe due to its price) can't be a great dac. It's signal (rca jack) goes into my adcom slc-505 (straight line controller, with vol. Control bypassed)than into my dared sl2000a than into my amp.

    Not sure you know what a DAC is.

    DAC= Digital to Analog Converter. You input a digital signal to it, and it outputs an analog signal. If your bluetooth device only outputs analog, then you are unable to use a DAC; your bluetooth device is doing the DA Conversion itself.

    What are you playing, MP3's from the phone ? That might be your limiting factor.

    Yes the blutooth devise ( blackberry gateway) is a Bluetooth dac. Just looking for an better alturnative. Chord has a Bluetooth dac ( they claiim is audiophile quality) but its 795.00 .sounds like it does the samething as the gateway, but looking for something in between the two price range . The gateway is only 80.00 retail. Was hoping I could upgrade the dac part but with already converted signal from the blackberry. I guess not. Does anyone know of another way to do the same conversion from streaming thru a phone devise?

    Streamming from groove shark paid upgrade. They claim they send out at 128kbs.

    Can't be done. Can't send audio through a fax machine. Different technologies. :wink:
