I'm a newbie to the SRS line, but I am the proud/original owner of a great pair of 1989 version SDA-2Bs (they have served me very well over the years). Long story short, there's a local guy selling a pair of SDA SRS 2s that are supposed to be in excellent condition And modified 5 years ago by Rich . . .. Rich goes by the handle sCompRacer out of Plainfield, Illinois. He appears to be a very capable Polk enthusiasts. sCompRacers mods to the SRS 2s that I would like to purchase, can be found here . .

I can not find any threads on SRS 2s (what am I doing wrong?? #$%Newbie)
Seller is asking what I feel is Top Dollar . . . $750 and IF in excellent condition, I may pay that . . . Your thoughts and suggestions??
fyi I'm in the mid-west, no original boxes for transport could prove difficult in the winter, seller claims to have purchased really expensive new speakers and needs the $$ .. . That's all for now. Happy listening!
Thanks in advance, Gents!!
again, why can't I pull-up any SRS 2 threads?? ty, ty, ty

Because we don't want everyone to know how good they sound. Many consider the 2.3TL and SRS 2 to be the best all around SDAs. I own a pair of both. As far as price, they don't make them anymore and they are getting scarce. Anything Rich does is first class.

I would just pick them up if I was you, you won't pick up a set and upgrade them for that $$$$

The SRS II IMHO are a great set of speakers. Since I did mods to my set, they are the best speakers I ever owned. I bought my set, in pristine condition, for $475 but keep in mind no upgrades were done yet, and they were just as they left the factory. I felt like I got a very good deal on them. I'm not sure if we are talking about the same SRS II speakers though. My crossovers were not the same as the ones shown in that thread. Mine have 2 boards, and the pin/blade interconnect. Anyway, with all the upgrades, I've got close to $1400 in these speakers, but to my ears they are superb. Here is another thread you might find interesting on the SRS II's.

Doug - you have the two board crossover and Pin/Blade IC? I've got the 2 board with BB. Man, Polk was all over the place with components.
And to the OP - yes, get them. Excellent speaker and that is a very good price for what has been done to them.

Wow, thanks for the kind words! Ah, memories...good memories. I used good solder, Cardas Quad Eutectic Silver Solder IIRC, not acid core solder  so the xovers were done with the right stuff. If they are in good shape, I think $750 is fair. Do they still include the non-common ground amp interface?
Here is the 'cat scratch fever' thread where I re-clothed them after purchase.

More memory cells kicked in....I bought them from the original owner. He lived down in Kankakee IIRC. Shortly after buying them, he had blown some of the tweeters due to them being underpowered. Polk replaced the bad tweeters and suggested he amp up. And he did, with two Adcom GFA-555's in a horizontal bi-amp. I bought one of the amps with the speakers, or went back for it, and he kept one.
Do they include the original owners manual? It was signed by Matt Polk. I couldn't make it to the Polk Fest and one of the CP forum members (Noel) kindly took it there and had Matt sign it. IIRC it had some notes written in it by the original owner when he spoke to Polk about the Adcom amps. He didn't blow anymore tweeters with the two Adcoms.

Taken from a recent Audioholics reply regarding "Club Polk" and Polk speakers:
"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion."
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

I'm excited! I purchased the SRS 2s tonight for $750. Just got them home in my pick-em-up (i.e.Silverado, so they'l have to thaw-out until tomorrow and I'll report back). They are in near perfect cosmetic condition. The prior owner (Loud and Clear) was very detailed and helped me carefully prepare the SRS's for transport AND It Was Cold Out! Thank you Aaron!
During the audition the SRS 2s sounded tight And warm . . time will tell.
Thanks all, your input is much appreciated!
To: Rich (sComRacer) the non-common ground IC was sold a couple of yrs ago to a Texan. L&Clear thinks for 1 to $200 (he could not remember the sale price). Aaron had the autographed Matt Polk owners manuel and the custom IC you made and I look forward to viewing the cd you made detailing the upgrades of the SRSs

What Tour said.... Here is a wiki opinion about it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bi-amping
I had tube amps on them, single and bi-amped with both Carver TFM-35's and TFM-45's. The biggest amp I had on them was the Rotel RB-1090. It was my first amp with wheels.

I thought internal bracing was one of the hallmarks of the 1.2's/ 1.2tl's...
In the 1.2 tl's they added cross bracing to the back wall and I can see why they did. I know most won't add cross bracing due to the design from Polk but I went against the grain and added bracing to my 1.2 tl's I used 1.5" round oak and I am glad I did, personally I think the walls on these big boys needed it to take away any flex in the walls. I figured if I went with round the air could move more freely and not restrict it much if any.
Looking at the SRS II's internal bracing that is the most bracing I have seen in any SDA's. -
This is the only internal shot I can find. Larry's rings would have saved me from doing some dowel rod repairs of the passive's retaining screws. I wouln't want the job of getting the glue off that binding post plate either. Looks like it was enthusiastically and abundantly applied.Salk SoundScape 8's * Audio Research Reference 3 * Bottlehead Eros Phono * Park's Audio Budgie SUT * Krell KSA-250 * Harmonic Technology Pro 9+ * Signature Series Sonore Music Server w/Deux PS * Roon * Gustard R26 DAC / Singxer SU-6 DDC * Heavy Plinth Lenco L75 Idler Drive * AA MG-1 Linear Air Bearing Arm * AT33PTG/II & Denon 103R * Richard Gray 600S * NHT B-12d subs * GIK Acoustic Treatments * Sennheiser HD650 *

Getting the glue off is really not that bad it looks worse then what it really is. I have done 8 of them well 9 including a repair for a member here.

GlennDog,Congrats on your new SRS 2's. I popped my SDA cherry with a pair of these, when properly set-up and dialed in,they are a fantastic example of what SDA is all about.
I doubt if you could ever find a better set for the price you paid. N'joy -
Thanks All,
I look forward to getting these fine tuned (i.e. 2 inches from the wall=base too deep, but 5" (for now, seems perfect)).
But, what gives? There's very minimal center stage imaging . . . WTF? and yes I've checked and re-checked for speaker polarity and absolute polarity. I also checked IC cable for and open . . . existing cable and 2 reference cables all measure 0.3 - 0.4 ohms.

Just a thought, you do have the Right and the Left speakers in the proper position, yes? Only reason I ask is; when I set-up my first pair of SDA's,in my hast I didn't check the rear of the speakers to make sure. -
