Looking for opinions here. First off, I am running a pair on Polk monitor 10b's, NAD 7240pe, Nakamichi CR1, NAD 5340. All puchased new in 1989. As much as I hate to give up my 7240, it is just having too many issues and is not cost effctive to repair. Only interested in 2 channel, I am undecided on what to replace it with. While my first choice would be a new NAD, at $800 that just isn't in the budget. So here is what I have looked at so far, Onkyo TX-8050, Integra DTM 5.9, Yamaha R-S700 and Harmon Kardon 3490. They run from 80wpc to 120. All seem to get good reviews but I am undecided and hoping for some first hand knowledge/opinions here on this forum.
Thanks and looking forward to your responces!

I have a used NAD C740 for sale here and on Audiogon if you are interested. Sounds fantastic and I liked it much better than my HK-3490.

Have to agree. I had some dried out caps in my NAD integrated. Had it serviced for less than 100 and it sounds like a "new" unit! So you might want to trouble shoot your unit as an option or consider that used market--hard to beat these units for the price.

Less than 100? that sounds pretty good, every place I checked locally wants 125 just to look at it! leaving me with a guesstimate of closer to 200. I have been looking on ebay for a used NAD but they always seem to either have issues or run to high. Say, how much for that C740 any way? every thing good on it?

I keep going back & forth between new and old. While I love my NAD, I can't afford a New one but all the older used NAD I've tried or come accross seem to be problematic. It seems age is taking its toll on most of them, leaving me leaning twords one of the other brands (new). So, anyone out there have any opinions on Onkyo TX-8050 (has wifi internet radio), Integra DTM 5.9, Yamaha R-S700 and Harmon Kardon 3490. They run from 80wpc to 120. All seem to get good reviews but I am undecided. Guess I still wouldn't rule out used NAD if I could find one at the right price & condition though. But that option seems increasingly unlikly as I have already tried two and looked at a third........all had issues.

The HK-3490 is a nice package. The prices are all over the place, but I liked its style and design.

The NAD I have for sale is $175 or best offer, and it works perfect no worries at all.

I'm not a guru, but you said it had volume issues. Could it be that the pot for the volume is so gunked up a little deoxit might help?

The HK is a nice stereo and has plenty of power and hookup options. Sucks your NAD isnt working though, touch to replace nice, solidly built equipment with most of the stuff built today.

I just purchased a refurb onkyo txnr 708 from club onkyo at shoponkyo.com. it cost me about 330.00 and while it is an avr i will be using it for 2 channel as it has a pure direct and lots of power. it is also, and most or the reason i purchased it a network receiver. you can hook it up to your wifi or wired network and play from your computer or many of the internet stations...limitless. it has a music enhancer like some of my other gear so the sound from these commpressed formats is very good. i have a blue ray hooked into it via one of the many hdmi ports and its pure digital all the way from your cd to the speaker wire...sort of. good luck

also i forgot to mention it has full pre outs and sub out. i wouldn't run rtia9's with it alone but would and will run my sda-srs 1's with it. the sub out is great as my micro-pro 1000 can take a lot of heat off the amp in the base dept.
