The Corvette active handling system does a great job of keeping the car going straight even in slush/snow. It will let the car slide a little and then you feel the system apply braking force. Unfortunately, the laws of physics still apply - if you are driving like a moron, TC/AH won't help you.

Active handling systems? WTF are those?
Oh, wait, I have them too. They're called the gas and brake pedals and the steering wheel. If my vehicle actually had weenie stuff like a gas mileage readout, it'd say about 2.5 gallons per mile. Keeping it straight is fun? Guess I've been doing it wrong. I use my driver's side window as the wind shield every where I go!
This thread has turned very sad. Arguing over who's "electronic save your butt so you look like a hero instead of a zero" system is better. And what kind of loser has a Corvette with an average fuel economy readout of 30+ MPG? It should say 3 MPG. Hell, I'd drive around in 2nd gear all the time just to listen to the engine exhaust note! Wait, I DO do that now! You gotta really romp on it though to hear it over the blower whine. It's alot of fun going around a turn at 10 MPH and then stabbing the gas pedal real quick to get the back end to step out.
Don't drive it like your mom. Drive it like it's your mom's. Every trip to the store to get milk should take at least an hour and when the car hits the driveway at the end of the trip, there's no gas left in the tank, it needs a new set of rear tires and you totally forgot to get milk.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Jstas,
A 2001 Ford Lightning should get approximately 15 MPG. Not 2.5 MPG like you claim.

I got it the first time. 2.5 GPM I just think Jstas is exaggerating.
A 5.4L + 2.0L effective displacement supercharger would only consume that much fuel at very high RPM, and since he implies that he is driving it on the street, not the track, I'm going to call BS on this one.polkaudio RT35 Bookshelves

I think that should explain his fuel consumption issues. I'm in 100%. -

I haven't implied anything.
I have had the truck step out on the street and since it's limited slip on a live axle, if I let off the gas too quickly, it'll snap back the other way and I will have zero control as opposed to minimal control. So I have to ride it out a bit, feathering the throttle, until it starts behaving itself again.
And yes, I do drive around on the street in 2nd gear. It's easier to get moving in the rain and sounds abso-fricken-lutely awesome as it rumbles down the street. Especially when it's under engine breaking and you get the crackle and pop out the exhaust. If I romp on it and light the wheels up and let off, when the engine bogs down from the immediate levels of traction it re-obtains, I actually get fire coming out of the side pipes.
And there's nothing like cruising down the highway at 70, dropping it down in to 2nd, hittin' the gas and sending two plumes of tire smoke up in rooster tails behind me.
Lightnings make burnin' dead dinosaurs a BLAST!
But hey, how I drive MY truck is my business (an the local constabulary). How you drive YOUR MOM'S Corvette is your mom's business.
On a side note, it must totally suck to be you.
I think Imma go burn some dead dinosaurs and look at Christmas lights for a bit. Maybe I'll do a burnout in the driveway before I leave?Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Young and dumb and full of holiday spirit? The Woodlands, yeah, I know that area well. I also know there are more than a few people up there with more money than sense. That video got both of those guys arrested. One tried to leave the scene of the accident. The other in the trees lied to the cop. So instead of just traffic violations, they got misdemeanors and felonies applied to their records as well.
As for the whole Vette owner debate threatening to bring down the thread...
I think it's pretty safe to say that a fair percentage of Vette owners are in over their heads as soon as they sign on the dotted line. The Vette is simply not as entry level a bit of muscle driveability-wise as it is availability-wise. Add to this a driver's lack of respect for (or ignorance of) its potential, a dose of immaturity and a dash of invincibility, and you've got video.
Completely different situation with those who have grown up with muscle, built their own rides and know their limitations and responsibilities.More later,
Tour...
