Onkyo NR807 and Emotiva XPA-5 Bi-Amping

For those of you who have this AVR, I'm still considering using the Emotiva XPA-5 for my pending purchase of the Polk RTi-A7 and A6 for the front stage in a 5.1 surround sound environment. I'm thinking of powering the vintage RTi-25 with the AVR and Bi-amping the A7. Other than removing the jumpers from the speakers, what other steps should I consider when doing the setup and hookups? Or this configuration possible?

    Set the speaker setting in the avr to bi amped.

    It still doesnt make any sence because with out an active xo between the Onkyo and the Amp your still going to be sending amplified highs in to the woofer section, and amplified bass in to the mid and tweeter section of your speakers.

    Do you mean bi-amping the A7's with the XPA 5 ?

    Why bi-amp? The 807 is rated 135wpc and your Emo is 200wpc(?). I bi-amped my M60's when I first got them with my Onk M-5150 (150x2), and didn't notice much difference, if any.

    The XPA has more than enough power to drive your speakers without the extra wiring that won't make a difference when done.

    Hey enthusiasts! Thanks for the input. I'm looking forward to making this upgrade. I only wish I could do make the changes while the XPA-5 is on sale :-(

    I went from using an Onkyo 808 to using the XPA-5 for power, and the difference is huge, especially when it comes to music. Movies are much more dynamic, and the sound can actually startle me at times when I have the volume turned up a ways. That never happened when I ran off the Onkyo for power.

    In a 5.1 setup, the 807 is probably making 80 watts per channel at most. With the XPA-5, you will get 200wpc with all 5 channels driven.

    the emotiva sale will probably end before the first week of Jan.

    Why don't you pick up the XPA-3 for the front channels and then run your rear speakers with the Onkyo?

    Try forgetting about bi-amping your amps/avr's, it really will not make a difference. I had the A7's bi-amped and could not tell the difference. If anything, you could bi-wire the speakers if you want to try something.

    To the Aim higher gents: for home theater use the XPA-3 and 5 are very hard to beat at price point and for there intended usage. This is not a 2 channel stereo set up, it's for home theater! :) You should not purchase a 3 or 5 channel amp to run 2 speakers!
