I keep seeing VSX-1121 is basically a VSX-52 or 53

Since the 1121 does not have ice amps, I really don't know where people get that the 1121 and the 52 are the same.
I should call up a few stores to see what I can get the 52 in-store today. Otherwise I am just going to buy the 1121 online today. I'm just running polk monitor series speakers, so saving a few $$ and just getting the 1121 for $400 bucks today sounds pretty good.

THe VSX-52 doesn't have ICE either. Not sure why they wouldn't be considered comparible. Although, the 52/53 does have some features that are nice, such as airplay. My SC-37 doesn't even have that.65" Sony X900 (XBR-65X900E)

Wow, so it is the SCs that only have ICE amps? Good to know. I've been teetering between an Elite, regular pioneer or onkyo 809 for some time. Looks like I'll just be picking up whatever is cheapest today just to finally get something.

Yea go with the elites, stay away from the 57 unless you wanna spend extra for very little. If you can find a 35/37 either open box or new, you can get them from under 1k, which is better then spending 2100 on the 57 for pretty much just "air play"Home Theater Setup

Just for kicks-and-giggles I emailed Pioneer to see what they would tell me the difference is between these two receivers and this is what they replied:Thank you for contacting Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc.
The difference between the VSX-1121 and the VSX-52 is:
The VSX-52 will offer:
Minimum Advertised Price $900.00 ? VSX-1121 is $800.00
2 year warranty
12 Volt trigger
In addition, one thing they didn't mention (because I called it out in my email to them) is that the 1121 has a glossy black piano finish and the 52 has a hairline aluminum finish. -
Picked up an open box VSX-52 for my dad for $450 the other day. Sounds pretty good...he's been waiting to upgrade his VSX-39 for EVER.Main Surround -
