Test Tone CD's

I'm not sure where to post this. Since I have a 2-channel setup, I put it here. Please move accordingly if desired.

Now, I've been doing a lot of reading on test CD's with sine wave tones and different test tones for settings subs and calibrating. Apparently there are many out there. What does the population recommend? I'm looking for something that has tones from 20hz-120hz, but steady tones or sine waves... I want to run REW this weekend but I also am confident that I still have setting issues with my 2.2 setup. I'm becomming frustrated with still trying to get the right sound out of my setup and I've had my setup for 3 months now...

Thanks

Really? I haven't found any yet. What I would like is one that generates a signal in the left speaker for a few seconds, and then the exact same signal in the right speaker for a few seconds. My preamp allows me to set the gain of each channel independent of the volume and balance control. A CD like that would let me insure the system is correctly balanced for room acoustics, etc.

Here's a pretty good one. Even includes a set of tracks for the RS meter.

For 2 channel. I always use my ears as the test cd.

Drenis, it would be easier for us if you threw up a pic of the room, list the gear, for us to help you. Then maybe explain what it is you don't like about the sound. Test tones are only going to do so much.

I have to admit I have not used the test cd for room adjustments, only bench testing. I usually use my ear. Would be interesting to see how well my ear is calibrated.

You have to be kind of careful with those. I smoked a pair of AR-5 tweeters about 25 years ago trying to hear 15,000 cycles. I never did hear the tone but I sure heard both those tweeters departing.

Funny George, you don't strike me as a test tone type of guy. I more so see you using a test tone cd to level out that wobbly table.

Well it appears he is looking for bass test tones only.I assume since he mentions he has a 2.2 setup indicating dual subs?he likely wants to use the tones in conjunction with an SPL meter to pin point peaks in the bass response due to room modes. With that info he can in turn apply the appropriate amount of EQ/cut to the correct band (assuming he has a parmetric EQ like a BFD)to flatten the response at the listening position.

I have the Stereophile test cd 2 and test cd 3.
#2 has channel id, phasing, musical selections, pink noise, 1/3 octave warble tones up the whole spectrum,
music articulation test tone, distortion and jitter tracks, spot frequency tones, and some others.
#3 has channel id, phasing, different musical selections, chromatic scales, 1/3 octave warble tones up the whole spectrum,
Burn in noise, squarewave, multi-tone signals, and others.

    This.

The A9's dig deep on their own but I want to match my subs with them whether its setting a xover of 50 or 80hz or running them full range with subs blending in at 50 or 80hz. But I dont know what those tones sound like to hear the room gain. According to my SPL meter, my subs have a 4db (2db with one sub on) advantage over the A9's output. This is with them running full range and subs blending at 80hz. So I was looking for a CD of tones that allows me to test and calibrate my system.

As I said, 25 years ago, when I used to be able to almost hear, I used to love test tone songs. I couldn't hear 15,000 back then, and that's what heated up those tweeters. I figured if I kept on advancing the volume a little bit after each attempt it wouldn't hurt. That's the reason I ended up with my first pair of Polks, the RTA11t. Bought them the day after I blew up the AR-5's at the BX for $290/pair. I guess it was the SL2000 that grabbed me.

I started listening less and watching tv more right around then, because I used to enjoy watching "in-between" the channels, but then they eventually put some kind of crap on every channel so it was back to listening/reading.

Here is another choice for free. I'm not 100% sure the links are still valid, but if you go through the thread, there might be a newer link.
    http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/diyma-sq-forum-technical-advanced/48815-all-6-focal-demo-discs-ready-download.html

Test tones are on the Tools CD (#2). They have fixed tones, sweeps, white noise, pink noise, in phase, out, etc. The other CDs are very good reference material as well. The music is eclectic, odd, and from extremely varied genres, but the SQ is always top notch.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...
