Excellent speakers, pretty good prices to boot. If they were black I'd probably think harder but I've already owned them. The 1.6QR is the loudspeaker Best Of or Top Pick... in almost every Audio magazine that's in print, every year. Why people waste time on the MMG is beyond me since this should be the first stop in the Magnepan series, period.

Coupled with a nice fast subwoofer like the DSW PRO400/440wi or DSW MicroPro 2K, you'd have a setup that would last a good while and only topped by a double price point to say the least.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Thanks for the good words, Mark!

I will have to add that I am always surprised by how low the 1.6's can dig... especially if you have some solid power for 'em.

+1 on Mark's comments. The 1.6's will make you wonder what took so long for you to get there.

Falcon - Would you mind finding out what it cost for a pair of socks?

Sure thing, I have to call Magnepan about something else tomorrow anyway.

BTW #1: Magnepan has excellent customer service. I've bought (4) pairs of used Maggies, and whenever I've needed any little spare this or that, Magnepan will usually ship it to me at no cost, or at the most, charge me for shipping but not for the parts. Pretty cool. Second only to Polk Audio, I'd imagine!

BTW#2: the off-white socks look wayyyyy better in person than in pics. They have a nice iridescent sheen to them that makes them kind of *glisten*. I had a black pair of 1.7's; I liked the black too, but there's something illusionary about the white that makes you forget you're listening to speakers.

Yeah the white socks look like a pearl effect or oyster like if that makes any sense. While I love the use of "illusionary" to sell them up, it just makes me giggle personally. They're simply very good loudspeakers.

Are you looking for cash only on the 1.6QR's or are you interested in doing some trading locally? I finished my move and have some gear, cables, etc I probably don't need to keep.

If you are open to trades please PM to let me know what you might be looking for.

    Thanks.

At $850 they're now within a Grant of what I ebayed my 1.5's for several years ago. I still love my 1.5's, but the 1.6's, which I audutioned new, were more than a little step up.

Side note... through the first few, I thought the photos in the CL ad were lifted from an audio store webpage.

Nice room, nice acoustical treatments, fc72...
    More later,

    Hey Mark!

Sorry, just looking for cash at this point. I'm in the process of offing a bunch of stuff to finance some Ushers.

Yea, they're great speakers. I've been listening to them a lot the last few weeks. Possibly the best way to spend a grand in the hifi, 2- channel world...

    This is a SMOKIN' deal!
I wish I was closer. I already have a pair of Gunned 1.6's. The MG12's would make a nice surround setup..
Good luck with the sale. If they are still around in March (fat chance) I'll pick them up when I'm driving through VA

    UPDATE:

The 1.6's are no longer for sale. I decided to keep them... they're just way too much speaker for the money, so I'm going to keep them in my back pocket for a secondary 2-channel rig sometime down the line.

Mods, please mark as SOLD. Thanks!

If I have a change of heart, I'll post a new thread.

    Cheers,

    Ben

Nice. I owned some 1.7's for a few months. During that time I A/B'd them with the 1.6's extensively, and I liked the 1.7's more in every respect. More extended highs, punchier bass, and a better integrated midrange. Every single current model of Magnepan offers a rare amount of bang-for-the-buck... from the MMG's to the 20.1's. It's a special company.
