I forgot I bid on a Kenwood 150wpc amp (KM-209) and guess what? I won. 91 bucks shipped.
Oh well. Who knows, it might sound pretty good

Drunk bidding?
Been there, done that.Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service. -
pretty much. I need one of those blow things for cars before I can fire up my computer

It'll be 150 into 8 ohms, and about 75 into 4. I think those were part of rack systems.
-
George pegged that one! That unit has a 'limiting' switch on the back for loads less than 8 ohms. Looks a lot like a rack system refugee...

On the bright side...you're only out 90 and can probably use it in a garage rig.

Thats kinda how I feel about it. I am gonna hook it up to the 12s though and see what happens. -

That's correct, on WELL MADE amps it usually is the other way around, although not always an actual doubling of power. -
Hi George...I am curious to hear how this sounds. This will be my first add on amp and I am hoping that it will make a slight difference
Will running the mains on a seperate amp leave more power for the center and surrounds? -

No it won't if you're talking about using the Kenwood instead of the front channel amps of a Dolby Digital receiver. Those amps remain unused and the center or rear channels cannot "borrow" from them.
The Kenwood will probably sound okay as long as you don't get nuts with it. You're only going to be driving the top part of whatever you're crossed over at anyway, with the subwoofer handling the real tough parts. -
I do use this system for HT a lot. But often, I listen to 2ch music by putting the fronts on large and turning the subs down.
Hoping adding an external amp on a different power source will give the 12s a little more punch. God, these things are power hungry. -

Thats how I ended up with my Sunfire. Low-balled a bid I didn't think I would win.
Surprise!
Tough to explain to the wife.Do you hear that buzzing noise?

The tenor of this thread, unfortunately, has it right. This particular amplifier and its kin are not great hifi amplifiers. Kenwood made a few fine amplifiers; this one is more of a toy. The $91 price tag sounds high relative to the going rate for these on... umm... certain auction sites.
-
A little high I guess. The actual bid was 51.00, but I got raped on the shipping 40.00. Didn't even notice when i bid (drunk)

Here is the info on this amp (if anyone cares) Specs are on the last page.

Ill give an honest review after I hook it up.
