Adcom Rebuild's

When I was researching AMPs for my speakers, I settled on the Adcom 545 II's. In that process I found a thread that had a good link or two of a company that rebuilds Adcoms to same or better.

Does anybody have a any knowledge of that string or have a link to a company that is reputable of such?

If I remember correctly, this Adcom "rebuild business" was in Wyoming or Montana? It wouldn't have to be that same place, but that one just seemed like the best I found.

Damn, I should have bookmarked it then!

I haven't tried them, but they advertise to have expertise with Adcom.

I haven't tried them. Price for the 545 went up about $70 since I first looked. I have read some posts on here from a Polky getting Parasound Amps refurbed.

I want to get this done to my Adcom. I called the only place in Austin that works on them and the guy thought I was crazy for wanting to replace the caps/resistors etc. and said if it wasn't broken he wouldn't touch it.

I called one of the authorized Adcom service centers and the technician told me essentially the same thing except that he didn't tell me I was crazy and that If I wanted them replaced he would do what I wanted but that it would be a waste of money. I know this approach is in stark contrast to what you will read on this and several other forums.
I've read several anecdotal accounts of Adcom power amps failing and causing catastrophic damage to speakers. I've tried to find a documented account of these failures but I haven't found one. I'm probably driving to Austin in the next few days and I will stop in and talk to the technician there.

Most Adcoms are fairly indestructible...incredible build quality for longevity. Those caps will last QUITE some time...at least a couple of decades or even more? So I fully understand the recommendation above. Unless you can 'really' hear something missing or wrong, you're probably still good. But it won't hurt to pay a tech to take a look-see! No harm there.

I have a couple in my office and they show no sign of letting up...I'm probably the third or fourth owner.

I to called Adcom in AZ to see if it was possible to change my face plate from the indutrial one w/ the handles to the ribbed front you see on later models. He said of course my particular model could not be changed,or if I tried it would cost 7x what I paid for the amp.As for repair shops he did mention Affiliated Electronics in N.J.He also said very hush hush like that Adcom will be comeing out w/ a new 800pre-amp that is supposed to be the best.I told him to send me one to test and of course they do not do such things. All things considered I'm really happy I got this amp, it's a tank that can run all day never get hot or clipp...Adcom gfa555 w/handles

I talked with the Adcom repair center in Red Bluff and was told if the amp wasn't making popping or crackling sounds than it was not necessary to be looked at. Was told the same thing that this equipment is built tough. My dc offset is at 45mV and 47mV and the tech said not a problem since spec was 35mV.
