Hello. First time posting, long time polk listener. I have a set of Rti12's running off a Yamaha RX v1800 and am looking to add an amp to power them. There are so many choices for amplifiers out there my head is begining to spin. Does anyone have a similar setup, Yamaha and an amp, or any ideas? Looking to spend around $1000, and yes, I know that each brand has a different sound. Thanks for the help!

The RXV 1800 is no slouch. Is this just for stereo?
What are your room dimensions, what is your seating distance? What problems are you currently looking to solve? Used or new amplification? -
I'm running a Rotel 1095, 5 channels x 200wpc. Its powering my Rti12's, A6 center and surrounds. Definately crisper sound from the 12's with the ampParasound HCA-2003A & 2205A
Front: Rti12's
Center: Csi A6
Side surrounds: Polk Rti A1's
Atmos: Mirage Nanosats
APC H15
Power cords by Pepster, Morrow MA4 IC's, AQ Midnight, AQ Chocolate HDMI's[/SIZE]
The rest is TBD. -
Ihave an EMOTIVA XPA 5, powering an LSI front sound stage and a pair of monitor 70,s as side surrounds. The amp is rock solid, runs cool, and has a huge amount of power. The LSI,15,s and LSIC are 4ohm speakers. The amp handles 5 speakers with absoulute ease.Emotiva XPA5, Sony ES 5300,: Lsi 15,s LSIC, Monitor 70,s, ( side surrounds) FXI 3,s, (rear surrounds)Micropro4000, Velodyne DEQ 10, Sony 55inchXBR 930D Sony BDP 790 Bedroom rig SonyES 3200 RTIA1,s CSIA4 FXI3,s polk PSW 10 SONY 34inch XBR960:cool:SONY BDP550

If you want a big bang for your buck and want cheap new equipment with warranty get the Emotiva UPA-1 monoblocks.

New I would say try the Emotiva XPA 5, but there is so much more in your price range if you consider used. I would also suggest Sunfire, Rotel and Outlaw Audio.
Outlaw M2200 monoblocks are what I started out with on my RTi12s.

Hello. First off, I sold the Yamaha RX v1800 and bought a Marantz SR6005. Got a great deal and prefered the sound. Now I can't decide between a pair of Outlaw 2200's or a pair of Emotiva UPA-1's. I have read great things about each amp, but have no way of auditioning them. Any ideas or thoughts? I really like the sound of the Marantz if that helps. I just want to "open up" the RTI12s some more. Thanks!

You like the Marantz AVR you just bought, so get a Marantz amp to go with it. Marantz has a warmer sound, which as you have discovered, mates better with your speakers. The two amps you mentioned would not be a good match with your speakers unless you like ear bleeds.
The B&K is another good suggestion.Political Correctness'.........defined

What city do you live in/near. Craigslist is always a good place to look. -
I have used several different amps with my RTi-12s. Of all the ones I used I liked the B&K ST202+ the best. The B&Ks warm sound is a good compliment to the RTis slightly bright sound. It helps smooth them out. One thing I can truly say about the RTi-12s is the more clean power you give them, the better they are. I tried several amps on them in the 200 to 250 wpc range and they all sounded good. The RTis did not truly come alive however till I biamped them using two 200 wpc amps. The bass was simply unreal with this setup. I didn't even need a sub while running this. I don't think the difference was due to the biamping, but was due to the increased wattage. My advice would be to try to get the highest wattage you can from an amp made from a good reputable company. Two amps biamped would also be a good choice, but I'm trying not to complicate things for you (even though it's not that hard to passive biamp using two amps).

How is the sound of rotel and carver amps? I have a feeling they are on the brighter side compaired to the sound of Marantz.

My RTi12's never sounded better loud than when they were powered by a Rotel RB-1090. A used one in good condition should be in the $1K range. It's a big heavy amp though, so your rack would need lots of room. Fortunately, the amp runs pretty cool and has casters on the rear for sliding into a rack.

Thanks for all the feedback! This is a great site!

I had a carver 1.5 and rti-12 it's a good amp it has it's own sound some love it some hate it. It will drive them fairly well but I liked the Rotel 1090 so much better it's one of the amps I regret getting rid of it drove them effortlessly. The bass response in two channel was amazing at moderate levels you felt the force of the bass through your chest. The carver was good but the bass response was lacking but it had a fuzzy tube like sound which was nice.
