Just pulled the trigger on this unit!!! Hope it's as nice as the reviews!!!
Problem is I love my Pioneer -BDP-51FD, The only thing is I hate going through the filmware update, and the slow loading time!!!
I will stick it in my 2 channel rig when I first get it just to play with the SACD side of it but it will live in my HT rig!!

Look forward to the review, Larry. I also run that Pioneer and I understand what you're saying. I just upgraded to V1.70--and now I see there's a V1.71.
I just don't understand why so 'many' upgrades are needed? And slooowww...yeah! But it puts out a nice picture and sound.

Do you do alot of music listening in your HT rig with your a9's? The 93 might have been all you needed via hdmi.

Please play some Bluray music, such as Tom Petty's Mojo album. What I am interested in is if the Bluray music digital out can be decoded by an external DAC, or if it has some type of copy protection. The Mojo Bluray CD says the stereo version is encoded in 48K 24 bit PCM. If it can be decoded it can be a good test of the Oppo's DAC and associated analog circuits.
I plan on getting one of these players for my 2 channel system, but am waiting for Neil Young to finish remastering all his CDs into Bluray.
Thanks.

I like this quote from the above link
"The 48K 24 bit audio on this disc has 256 times more resolution than a CD, providing greater detail and reproducing the music's full dynamic range, from the softest to the loudest sounds. To achieve full dynamic range it's necessary to master with less overall level, so this disc might not sound as 'loud' as a standard CD or film soundtrack.
To compensate for this, turn up the volume!"Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

Not really. but I am listening to The Doors LA Woman on DVD-A right now on them..
Also this should be the last Blu-Ray Player I will need for some time!! -
I got a 93 about a month ago and love it so far, I can only imagine that the 95 would be an improvement on it. It is my first Oppo.

Alot of money for a mediocre cd player to watch a bluray on
If I had the kinda you do then I would bought a W4S dac2 or a benchmark . Congrats on the purchase though as it does play great with old dvd's -

Has anybody seen a review of the Oppo 95, especially one that concentrates on the analog section?
Home Theater reviewed the Oppo 93 this month, but it was video oriented. I plan on upgrading my Oppo 83 to the 93, and would like to get a 95 for the two channel system, but would like to see a substantitve review first. On paper, the 95 sounds like it is just the ticket for playing Bluray music in a two channel system.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

Your the only one saying stuff about peoples gear on here duhhhh thanks for pointing out my logans are mediocre compared to your speakers .The op does not own the machine so how can I say he has mediocre gear ? Why dont I pull my pants down and you can take a look at my signature because its bigger than yours
The oppo machines are just bluray players and in my opinion not worth the dollar for audio performance .By the time you upgrade one of these machines then you could have bought some way better gear, sorry if that is offensive but this is a free forum to share ones opinion on audio gear -

Larry, his reason for doing it is the obvious one. He just likes to be the bad guy who pisses people off. Self indulgence to the extreme. Just don't let it happen to you and the person becomes powerless (verbally). If they become physical, that's a whole other context.
Congradulations on the Oppo too!

"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion."
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

Hmmmmm.... What do you think he meant when he said "Just pulled the trigger on this unit."
I can see how you could be confused if it were, say, an XBox. Maybe he was playing with one of the gun controllers in Best Buy, and just haphazardly pulled the trigger on it, and then felt compelled to tell us all about his experience. But in this case, I personally think it was pretty eff'ing clear that he does own it, and there are far more polite ways of telling someone that maybe it's not your cup of tea.
Larry, hope you enjoy the Oppo, sorry others feel it's necessary to treat a member, who has done so much around here to help others, so rudely.Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance. -

Meh, pfb is a douchb*g.
That 95 is supposed to be better than my 83SE in every way and the only thing that has bested the 83SE in my rig is an ARC CD3. I think Larry will be amazed.
Larry, give that thing at leas 200 hrs before making any critical judgements. Mine really smoothed out and stabilized around 500 hrs. Use the analog stereo outs for all music and you are in for a nice time.-Kevin

I just got mine about a week ago, so far its really good. My biggest complaints stem from hooking up my 2tb external via esata. When the hard drive is hooked up everything loads slowly. Then last night i was watching an avi file and the lip sync issues where unbearable. I probably have a poorly ripped copy of the movie I was trying to watch, but still, vlc was handling it fine.HT:

well it is a universal player with some very good inards. So what part is "mediocre" in your opinon? I'd love to hear this PFB
nice grab Larry -
Here's are comparative measurements for both the 93 and 95 from the folks at AH. Note that there is no subjectivity, just numbers and very little detail regarding what the analog section of the 95 produces other than there is so little distortion that it surpasses the ability of their equipment to measure it.

I've also got the 83SE and it's a fine universal for the money, better in 2 channel than MCH over analog. Much better than the stock 83.

Larry, nice grab. I really like the look of this player and I know some guys were dumping the Pio BDP-09FD for these when they came out which the 09 was a good player and had a good analog section.

It's going in my 2 channel rig right when I get home, it won't see my HT rig for a week or so.. I will be using the XLR's first then the RCA's for SACD and DVD Audio play back.. -

So if I plug that into my Pioneer SC-25 for example, the analog outputs are likely going to sound better because I'd be using the DACs in the Oppo, which are higher end than the DACs in the AVR. So in this case the analog output of the Oppo would likely sound better than the HDMI.
But if I pluuged the Oppo into a really high end preamp like a krell or something, the preamp may have better DACs, in which case the HDMI output would sound better.
So that comparison that you're asking for really tells you more about the comparison between the Oppo and the downstream component than anything else. -

PFB, you can search every one of my posts and you will not find one that disparages anyone's gear. I'm not an audio snob despite my gear. And if you'd read closely, I did not call your speaks mediocre, you did. I asked if you would basically like your nose rubbed in it. I guess you didn't.

Where the 2 channel capability shines in my house with the Oppo is when it's plugged into an old Luxman analog pre. The MCH analog is also superior to the Burr Brown DACs in my Oppo via HDMI. The only high end 2 channel rig I've listened to locally was Fred Vu's fully tubed setup and I won't dare to compare it to that, but for my needs it's a treat. The 95 measures better and has a better power supply, later rev DACs and a more robust enclosure, so I expect it will exceed my 83SEs capability.

Speaking of 2 channel capability, with the two balanced connections on the 95, can you connect those directly to the balance connections of an amp, bypassing the AVR, or do you also need to connect the RCA stereo outputs to the AVR?Source: BRP Panasonic UB9000, CDP Emotiva ERC3 - Display: LG OLED EVO 83 C3 - Pre/Pro: Marantz 8802A - Amplification: Emotiva XPA-DR3, XPA-2 x 2, XPA-6, Speakers, Mains/2ch-Focal Kanta No2's, C-LSiM706, S-702F/X, RS-RTiA9's, WS-RTiA9's, FH-RTiA3's, Subs - Epik Empire x 2

Ron Temple wrote: »Yes...but there's a complication...at least in the 83 series. They have a volume control, but it limits full dynamic range unless the player's MV is at 100 (max). I don't know about the 9x series. However, I have taken the pre out of the chain and hooked my SE directly to my TFM 35. It sounded fabulous at a volume of 15. If I had hooked it up without adjusting the volume control on the remote first, I would have blown something. The TFM also has a gain control, but I left it at max just to see how much the Oppo controlling things effected SQ.
Oh yeah, I forgot about volume control. You would have to have it connected to the AVR at least for that.
But the XLR hookups can go straight from the 95 to your balanced connections on the amp, right?
And, can it be done in conjunction with running RCA connections from the AVR for a three channel set up for HT?
