Both sides use any argument they can to avoid what is common sense to the rest of us. Getting back to Glenn Beck and his leaving Fox, what his show was all about was getting his audience to use some common sense in their daily lives, and to seek out the truth for themselves. Because of his show, I take nothing any of the talking heads have to say seriously until I have looked into it for myself.

    Thanks Glenn!

and with that, I will bow out of this thread.

and this is why I will never watch his show. I frankly don't care who they are they pretty much are just full of crap and annoy me. Yes good points can be raised in any show, but in the end, its still someone giving what they want you to follow and your still listening to them. IE most people never bother to do that homework and rather would just sit on their butt for the whole hour and stare at a box to tell them what to think and follow.

For havings a BS in Poli Sci I sure do hate the subject at times.

Also his whole crying thing, yeah, if I really wanted to see a grown man cry I would just kick some guy in the nuts.

With all due respect John. I know the history of 'racism' in the U.S., Brazil, Japan and a quite a few other countries much better than you do. I teach some courses on this subject. And it is a bit insulting to claim that those whose ancestors have been enslaved have an 'equal' voice, perception to those who have never experienced that?

    cnh

Not if you listen to the likes of Jackson,Sharpton, and a cast of others.

Since you supposedly teach coarses on the subject, please explain this "equal voice", seeing as I don't see one person of color today that has experienced slavery.

The past is the past, is every race accountable for the sins of the fathers ? If so,where does that end ? Using race to beat the drums of hatred, or to somehow get retribution, is a tool most used in the political realm today. The term "racist" is used too often, thrown at political opponants, thrown at a certain policy one may not agree with. I would say the ones who throw that word around today are themselves guilty of such.

Forget about 'type' casting and listen to the latter speeches of Martin Luther King, Jr. See what he says. Or isn't that 'good' enough? I'm not going to 'convince' anyone of anything they don't already believe. And, frankly, that's not what I'm here to do.

Fox News is "Balanced and Fair".

If by "Balanced and Fair" they mean short skirts and long legs, then ... YES !

Edward R Murrow must be rolling over in his grave, though.

Speaking of Mr. Murrow, here's a "Cut-N-Paste" quote (and how we all love those ):

"If we were to do the Second Coming of Christ in color for a full hour, there would be a considerable number of stations which would decline to carry it on the grounds that a Western or a quiz show would be more profitable.

Which proves conclusively, IMO, that ....... ................. uh .......... okay, not a whole lot.
By accident, I caught 5 minutes of ABC national news yesterday. Dianne Sawyer had a
    4

minute fluff piece on ..... I dunno .... "Lil' Billy gets new training wheels on his bicycle" or some such malarkey.

The world's slightly akilter, and Dianne's helping it feel better with the help of Lil Billy and whatever-the-heck-his-story-was.

Left/Right/ABC/NBC/CBS/CNN/MSNBC/Cartoon Channel: they're all pretty much the same, IMO.
    And "Awesome" doesn't describe it.

glen beck was plain crazy when he was on CNN / HLN (Headline News version of CNN)....
glen beck was plain crazier when he was empowered by Roger Ailes (George H.W. Bush's campaign strategist).

If you don't know or don't believe or don't think that Fox "News" is nothing more than a 24 x 7 Republican Party advertisement then you're just fooling yourself.

Thats not to say that MSNBC is nothing more than a liberal left-wing 24 x 7 mouthpiece and and advertisement for the democratic party. -- it is.

and which came first - the garish squawking chicken (fox) or the persistent egg (MSNBC) is anybodies guess.

but i'm just damn glad they finally pulled the plug on mr. crazy as all hell beck.

    just my 2 cents worth.

p.s. -- you cant slide a credit card between the difference between the republican party governing policies and the democratic party governing policies - in the end they're both bought and paid for by the big banks / corporations (oil)/ unions (in the case of the democratic party) / and the U.S Chamber of Commerce (in the case of the Republican Party).

Our democrazy is basically flawed and broken as far as i can tell....

If I had a Master's Degree in political science I could probably concoct a recipe to fix it... but I think it would take some serious campaign finance reform to get the big interest - big money - big lobbyists out of the equation.

There must have been a supreme court ruling or two that gives corporations the same rights sans responsibility that individuals have - i.e., freedom of speech for corporations (1st amendment right) that is interpreted to allowing them to lobby ad infinitum with no limits to the amount of treasure that they expend doing it.

but it's all good -- we're still born into and living in the greatest GDP economy in the world with no less than the 10th highest standard of living.

we should all be thankful (that glen beck got sacked) that we live here and not Zimbabwe

    sawakeekrup mr. beck

    happy trails to you

yep, I grant you that. His theory on the rise of unrest in the middle east spreading from one country to the next was way off base. Find one "conspiracy" that he brought to light that has no basis in fact.

Yep, he was just way out there in left field when he said (months/years ago) that diverting corn to fuel would lead to higher food prices and that inflating the money supply and limiting drilling would cause higher fuel costs

That was just "crazy talk", right?

I guess his concerns (again, months ago) about Northern Africa and the Middle East where just more of that "crazy talk". I guess we should all just shut up because the world is so much safer and more stable than it was in 2007, right?

Eh, whatever, one thing is for sure, Beck will still be in the media in one form or another.

Despite his bombastic nature, Beck was right on the money. He is certainly not gone, and his being free from the constraints of Fox News should in no way be seen as the network dropping him. His program was the third highest rated show on cable, and his audience will stand by him...

Here is a little help with your research (you always do your own research right?) that you seemed to have missed or chose to ignore support you views as quoted on http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com:

"His show is down 30% in average viewership, and down 37% among the cable news advertiser target adults 25-54 demo vs. the first quarter of 2010. The 5-6pm competition on both CNN and MSNBC saw increases during that same comparison period.

I don't pay any attention to the various rumors swirling around the show, but the ratings are no rumor."

You can find the actual Nielsen numbers here also:

    http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2011/03/29/glenn-beck-ratings-tumble-vs-last-year/87528

I hope this helps you in your quest for the truth. Perhaps he can take his show straight to the faithful with a pay-per-view show. I'm pretty sure you'd pay and others would too. Capitalism at its finest.

I would pay BIG to see a Beck/Palin campaign just for the sheer entertainment value...where do I send my check?
