What kind of speaker cables for RTiA9's

Greetings!!

I'm new to this forum, but I've been a fan of Polk Audio speakers since the early 80's.

I am doing research for a HT system that I will be purchasing. Part of that system will be a pair of RTiA9's and an Emotiva XPA-2 to drive them. I'm having a little trouble deciding on speaker cables. I've considered everything from Vampire Wire to Kimber Kable 8TC. I'd really appreciate any help from you guys, especially those of you who have the setup that I plan on purchasing. Thanks.

It all depends on your budget. With my RTIa9's I ran MIT AVT s3's and they sounded great together. A 8ft pair runs about $200 from JOE.

    Welcome !!

I picked up some Audioquest Type 4 speaker cables from a member on here and they work very nice with my RTiA9's.

Its interesting that people will spend this kind of money on wire. Its just wire. Its inside your house not exposed to the elements. Why bother?

Get some off a roll at home depot. Unless its going to be seen, then I understand having something that looks nice. Or if its going to be moved a lot, then I get having special plugs. Otherwise, just make sure you have a large enough gauge for the length of your run.

The internal construction has little to do with being "exposed to the elements".

There are many theories on how cable construction affects analog signals, especially AC signals. But I'll let others chime in on that. I made some 14/4 solid core cable myself from Home Depot. It was a good project, sounds great, but nothing special. It sure as hell was hard to run since it's solid core and 4 strands of it in each wire.

Why bother posting something about recommendations when you haven't done any trials yourself?

    To the OP.

Cardas, Signal Cable, Audioquest, MIT, Nordost, bluejeans etc etc are all good. Personally just get something that you can afford with your budget and if you wonder if anything else will make a difference down the road try something else out. I would say for the A9's some good stuff to use will be the Signal Cable. Made in the US and for good prices, and very good quality.

Just an FYI, you can either buy it with those on them or just add them yourself (which is what I did)

Here is a nice big thread on another forum that shows you how to do it. So you could get whatever wire you want in your budget and whatever banana plugs you want and DIY so its just what you want.

Or you could buy it totally put together yourself. Either way you should be happy

    S-f PG,

Welcome, and as one Floridian to another ... duck and cover! The warmly contested wire debate is about to reignite.

You didn't do anything wrong ... moderators should mark "Flammable" on all like titles :)

As a relative noob here myself I have no greeter status, but learned early there is both tons of great, shared info here - from folks who know and have loads of experience, as well as a couple "hot button" topics with valid support from either (all?) sides. And the great wire debate can be like watchin a couple heavyweights go at it.

Sit back and enjoy or, for even more fun, do a related search. Try "lamp cord" just for fun!

    I'd make popcorn first ...

    Haha, well...

I've been an electrical engineer for over 20 years. Several of those working in wiring. If it doesn't have science behind it, Your right, I won't get it.

There are only two properties of wire that matter. Resistance, and impedance. If you aren't changing those, what are you doing?

There is a lot more to it than that. We are passing more than just volts and amps across that wire. I had my head up my **** for a while too, but then I opened my mind and actually tried different cables. Maybe if you posted your location you could find someone near you to give you a demonstration. Thanks for sharing your vast cable experiences with us.
    Ben

BTW I doubt you are an EE, or a good one. Most would have listed inductance, capacitance, and resistance...

Whoa, guys!! I didn't intend to cause a cyberwar!! (BTW I apologize for misspelling "Thanks" in my original reply.)

Believe me, I've been around long enough to see some wild and crazy stuff in audio. How many of you out there remember the people who put their turntables on cinder blocks? How about those guys who bought turntables with 50 lb. platters? How about the green markers that were used to make a ring around the circumference of a CD?

I just was looking for a good quality set of cables. I by no means have to have a set of cables that cost a king's ransom. After reading the replies, I am leaning toward the Signal Cables Ultras.

    Again,thanks for the help.

Signal is good. Also I like Canare S411 bulk and add my own terminations. People that don't think that cables make a difference almost always think that we are saying you need to spend uber $ to get good SQ. Heavy turn tables do make a difference.
