Built-in rmi/efi filter on powercord receptacle

I have this Dynaco Pas-2 preamp that I got from Snow, that he got from Russman. Ugly thing, but this is changing. Anyways, I was going to order a receptacle for the powercord so that I could change cords and improve upon the lamp cord it originally came with.
I have one that I scavenged at work out of some sort of electrical cabinet that was scrapped. It has built-in emi/rfi filter. Before I cut a hole for it, is there any disadvantage to using one of these? Is there an advantage...I would assume so, but I'm not an electronics guy. I see all kinds of things to prevent emi/rfi contamination, why would/wouldn't this be a good addition.
Thanks,
Tim
