Haven't posted here, but I've been running through the threads like crazy. After a lot of reading, and second (third, fourth) guessing I decided to pick up a new system from Crutchfield.

By way of introduction, and to describe my space, it'll go in my bedroom, which is also my home office, so I spend most of my time out of my shop there working (or not). The room is about 12x20', with a pitched roof to about 12'. I'm using an Onkyo TX-SR303, which I'll likely upgrade later. I have no room for towers so I went with bookshelf speakers.

Crutchfield allowed me to buy the RTis with the free PSW111 so I got:
RTi6- Fronts
RTi4- Surrounds
CSi3- Center
PSW111- Sub (and free).

I know the PSW111 is not regarded as a great sub, but it was included. I don't have any sort of a subwoofer right now, so it's pretty much better by default. I know I need to upgrade it at some point. But hey, that's what places like this are for! I had a $500 budget for all the speakers and ended up going about $60 over. I thought that getting the better speakers now with an OK sub would be better than going with another system that forced me to compromise on both the speakers and sub. Less to upgrade later.

So anyway, thanks to all, even though you didn't know you were helping.

And how'd I do?

I think you'll be very happy with that setup, especially for the price.

You say you're already a little over-budget, so DSkip's recommendation may not be a possiblility, but it's definitely a good suggestion.

Regardless, the set-up looks good. Enjoy!

Did you already get it shipped? With Crutchfield, they will allow you to swap Polk subs and use that $299 credit towards another. The smallest DSW would only be $100 out of pocket. Might be worth checking out...

I debated going with that setup as well, but chose to go with the RTi-A line for aesthetic reasons.

Yeah, I thought about it. It was too much over my budget. Actually what started me on this whole odyssey was upgrading my ancient Zenith HTIB speakers with something better. I started with the satellites, which led eventually to the Energy Take Classic. As well as everyone seems to speak of the Energy speakers I thought spending another ~$100 more was probably worth it. But the $560 was all I was willing to pay. I looked at the TSis, the Monitor IIs, the Panasonics from BB, the Infinity Primus and the Bics. In the end I decided to go with what I thought was a really good 5.0 system with the PSW rather than build a 3.1 system with a better sub.

Thanks for the recommendation though. I appreciate it.
