I'm Still Here (movie)

Saw this flick with the GF last night. "Supposedly" it's a mockumentary of Joaquin Phoenix and his ambitions to leave Hollywood and pursue Hip-Hop.
My buddy and GF think that Joaquin isn't acting, but instead really trying to become a rapper.
I, on the other hand, think he's acting. The debate of whether or not he's acting is interesting, which makes this movie somewhat bearable to watch.
For one reason or another, this movie kind of reminded me of Man on the Moon and it's portrayal of Andy Kaufman. Do you guys remember Any Kaufman on David Letterman? Here's Joaguin Phoenix and David Letterman.

There's nothing supposed about it anymore...In September 2010 director Casey Affleck confirmed that this movie is not a real documentary, but fake. The public has been wondering ever since Joaquin Phoenix announced his retirement from acting in order to become a rapper in October 2008, whether it was all just an act or if it was for real.
The whole thing was a rouse...and while it could have been funny, they failed miserably and I'm Still Here was absolutely terrible. I'm surprised Casey Affleck agreed to do this. Probably the brother-in-law thing. -
There's still a lot of skepticism about it being completely fake, just because Joaquin is way too batshit crazy to be self-aware enough to do something like this.If you will it, dude, it is no dream.
-
So what isn't fake...that he likes to do drugs and bang gutter trash hookers? I just described the bulk of a-list celebs. Every single one of them has identity issues because they spend their lives pretending to be other people. Look at Heath Ledger.
The funny or sad thing is that he wasted over two years of his life being a dumb **** with this gag about quitting acting and becoming a rapper that he has yet to land another acting gig.
There were continuity problems and other things in this movie, so it was clearly all staged. It never would have made it into theaters if it wasn't an actual production. -
The question isn't about whether it was a "real production." The question is whether Joaquin Phoenix is "in on the joke." Did you ever see Windy City Heat?If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

There has been so much waffling of late concerning the validity of this movie, that I'm more intrigued by Demi mentioning "continuity problems" then anything Affleck or Phoenix have asserted in the last four months.I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

You're comparing a complete nobody to someone who was, or nearly was, an A-List actor in Hollywood. A guy like Joaquin has handlers and people who loosely run his life. They also make big bucks on making sure he makes good decisions and sometimes they make mistakes and let their puppy **** on the oriental rug.
An actor at his level isn't going to be suckered into a production that turns him into a complete joke. He did that willingly.
I have no illusions that the guy is anything but a complete mess, however. -

When I watched the Blu-Ray of it a few weeks ago (I think), I was surprised it was as bad as it was and looked some stuff up.
They had done a whole bunch of takes to get stuff right, such as this:IMDB wrote:Continuity: When Phoenix first meets Diddy in the hotel, he knocks on the door on the right side of the hall, then the camera switches and Diddy is opening the door on the left side of the hall. It can't just be a change in camera angle since the door is the last one on the hall.In the defecation scene, where Joaquin Phoenix gets pooped on in bed, the "****" was actually a combination of humus and coffee grounds. The mixture was inserted into a tube that was taped onto Antony Langdon's (Anton) back that went down to his butt.
There were multiple takes in the 'hooker' scene as well. -
^^^+1
That's really interesting. Didn't catch that when I watched it.
I'm intrigued in what these guys will do in the future considering this movie was a huge flop, while also making a lot of people question Joaquin Phoenix.HT: RTi8s, CSi3, RTi4s, HSU ULS-15, Pioneer Elite VSX-23TXH, Sunfire Cinema Seven.

holy cow. a movie that's not absolutely real, faithful and accurate? ..and a "star" who may, or may not, be all that he seems to be (or maybe far more... or far less)?
Jeepers, next folks will intimate that professional wrestling is staged... or maybe, even, that some entries at www.wikipedia.org aren't completely accurate and unbiased.
I need to go get a drink.
EDIT: I am betting that Andy Kaufman, Jim Morrison, and D.B. Cooper saw I'm Still Here together and then went for a late dinner at a brasserie somewhere in Paris. -

That's a pretty good youtube, Bobman. Had to play it five times just to make sure that he was really crying instead of acting (sarcasm).HT: RTi8s, CSi3, RTi4s, HSU ULS-15, Pioneer Elite VSX-23TXH, Sunfire Cinema Seven.
