What's the last country song you listened to?

I have Winamp shuffling through the 400 gigs of music while I work on remodeling a spare room in to a library/office. Every so often, a country song hits the tubes. It got me thinkin' that country honestly gets a bum rap. Maybe it's not your thing? That's fine, just don't be an @&$hole and just keep your comments to yourself, thanks.

For the rest of you who actually enjoy and listen to country music, what was the last track to cross your CD transport or groove your stylus tracked through?

I just heard "King George" Strait's "What's Going On In Your World?"

I love country. Real country that is, not the watered down fluff much of it is nowadays. The last country album I listened to was also by George Strait, "Merry Christmas Strait To You".

I do like the classic stuff try listening to "The Coversation" by waylon jennings and hank william JR and I will give you $5 if you dont start tapping your feet

Even the crap quality version on youtube is still a joy to listen too

    Lee Ann Womack...absolutely gorgeous!

Shuffle is an interesting thing. This just came on. Buried way down in the archives, I haven't heard this one in years. Randy Travis "Forever And Ever, Amen"

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sgJXbIP83A8&feature=related

Reminds me alot of Alan Jackson's "Buicks To The Moon"

And while I was typing this, King George came back on with "A Love Without End, Amen" This one gets me every time.

    Funny you should ask.

    1st off ,I don't drink...OOOOOhhhhhh, strike one in a major way huh.

Just tonight I bought Jonny Cashs greatest hits volume 1 and 2 on 2 disc set at goodwill for 1.oo. I played "Don't take your guns to town" while setting up a stereo for another to potentially buy.

I don't like country to much because they're always having sorry-as% times in their life. Well I have sorry times but not enough to have to listen to 100's of others tell theirs to.

I still have my wife, dog, truck, house and whatever else country music lovers seem to loose.I still have my good looks and pretty teeth to. Maybe when I loose half of what I just mentioned, I'll listen to more stories that would start to relate to me, but I'm far from it now.

I don't do rage because I'm quite happy with most of my life as it is now.

I do play Glen Cambell and Willie once in a while so ......

While setting up the new AVR downstairs, kind of made sure I was around so that all 40 pre-sets weren't set to stuff that I don't particularly care for. We have 2 decent country music stations around here, and "we" managed to get one on a preset due to "Forever and Ever, Amen" being played as we scanned the FM band (proof, IMO, that there is a God in Heaven ).

Been a bit since this song's been played around here, but this is one by Johnny Cash that is pretty emotional; the video with it does the song justice.

I just ordered the self titled debut vinyl release from The Secret Sisters. Real down home kinda stuff; through back to the 60's/70's scene.

    Hank Williams remake:

Jack White, from the White Stripes and his label Third Man records has a hand in this as well. (typical Jack White guitar riffs, awesome!) This song is not part of the new release.

There is a TREMENDOUS difference between REAL country music, and the pop songs that get passed off as being "country music" these days.

Listen to some Gram Parsons, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson(can be kinda hit or miss. Lots of good stuff, but lots of crap too), Hank Williams Sr.(not to be confused with Hank Jr.), and then tell me that country music sucks.

I was raised on the old country playing at my mothers parties. I worked at a high end country dinner nightclub and saw the likes of Billie crash cradock(s) and countless others over 9 months. Alot of drinking went on, alot. Other stuff around that night club could fill a book.
I was to young to drink, but anyway, it was memorable.

Country is great and moves me if the songs are right. Garth Brooks is awsome in my mind and I have country collections of genre and artists but very limited in country.I have alot of the classic country.

I'm listening to blue grass more like Nickle Creek and others and I don't think anybody in this thread said Country SUCKs. It's the soul of America and is voiced in diferent ways. I like the real soulful story telling type. Not the cheater calling style.

I bought Jonny Cashs' last Cd and played it so much my wife told me to stop, that is was depressing her to much. I liked his style alot and loved "Walk the Line" with jocquine Phonix(s). Though life.

    Carry on..

I'm not sayin' that Chris Ledoux didn't make a version of the song but the link you gave is actually Gary Lee and Showdown. The song was written by Gaye Delorme and he wrote it about that rodeo they have in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

The easiest place to find the best recording is on Dr. Demento's album "Demento's Mementos".

I'll take your word for it, I certainly didn't do any due diligence to find the original. I just took the lazy first google references. I think he wrote it, not sure he ever performed it.
