RT55i's desperately seeking tweeters!

Hello!

I hope everyone enjoyed their Holidays this year!

Part of my gift to myself this year was a pair of Polk RT-55i's for a 2 channel system I'm putting together for the bedroom, but one of the tweeters doesnt work!

Not a big deal, I said to myself, the seller gave me the part number for the tweeter, I found sommeone who is selling that part number fairly cheaply right now, and I've easily replaced tweeters before . So I handed over the cash, had the speakers shipped to my place, and then pulled the front bezels off of them to prepare for the repair job, and order the parts.

Then WHOOPS! the seller gave me the wrong part number, and he is long gone with my cash!

The seller told me the RT55i uses an SL6001 tweeter, and I know where I can find plenty of those for $50/pair, but the RT55i uses an SL6506! my source doesn't have ANY of those, and I heard the SL 6506 tweeters are no longer made??

That parts dealer is offering me a pair of new-in-box SL6507 tweeters instead for about the same price. I have also heard suggestions the SL6507 tweeters are probably Polk's direct replacement part for the SL6506??

--Is that "direct replacement" story true?

I have specs for the SL6507, but I dont have specs for my SL6506 tweeters to compare or confirm they are compatible or not. Does anyone on this forum know more about the similarities & differences between the two tweeter models.

And IF these two part numbers are not compatible, then how/where can I get my hands on a pair of the CORRECT replacement tweeters (whichever they are) for these Polk RT55i's I just bought?

Just contact polk support,, they well tell you what the replacement tweeters are,,, they seem to change the tweeters when a new model comes out,, sadly, they assume the new tweeter is better, so in some cases, like the tri-lames, they stop makeing the originals,, jimmy.

The original tri-lam is no longer made and Polk does not sell them (part #BD0125-W if you can find one). The replacement is a silk dome (#RD6514-3) and I found there to be very little difference in SQ. In fact, I had a tri-lam in one RT55i and the silk in the other for a period of time and you would be very hard pressed to tell the difference. I eventually replaced the tri-lam with the new silk to keep them the same.
