I am going to take a look at some 10b's tomorrow. The pics look great. Is the passive foam or rubber on them? Looks a little faded in the pics but, it could be age or sun.
The pics look good
Anything special outside of the norm I should look at?

actually -- I'm no expert but i think thems are 10As. Those have peerless tweeters (silk dome tweeters), which are preferred by the experts on here.
The surrounds on the passive radiator and the drivers are rubber - so you don't have to worry about foam rot.
Looks like the original stands (thats a good thing)
Other experts on here say that if you push in (and hold in) the passive radiator - the mid drivers should push out and then slowly return their original position over a matter of a few seconds. (the cabinets are sealed and the seal is essential to the passive radiators to produce deep bass).
If these sound good to you and are $250 or less then you should seriously consider buying them.

Rubber surround on the 10 b's, they oxidize a little but that should clean up easily.
Stands are a nice score. Check the fuses in the back when you test them, if there is a blown fuse they will sound like crap, but the fix is easy and cheap.
I have not seen a set of 10's with a polk audio badge on the speaker instead of on the removable grill, so that is sort of weird for me, but it could just be a model thing. The secret for harvesting from existence the greatest fruitfulness and greatest enjoyment is to live dangerously. - Nietzche -
I was not sure if that was the peerless tweeters or not. Hard to tell.
From what I am reading on them, reg a or b, people seem to like them. I am excited to hear them tomorrow. Possible bedroom system for me!Klipsch The Nines, Audioquest Thunderbird Interconnect, Innuos Zen MK3 W4S recovery, Revolution Audio Labs USB & Ethernet, Border Patrol SE-I, Audioquest Niagara 5000 & Thunder, Cullen Crossover II PC's. -
The Peerless tweeters have a black mounting plate. Th SL1000's have a silver mounting plate.
BenPlease. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

They look to be in great shape, but who knows..they could have some peeling on the finish.
As much as I'd like a pair of these myself, I wouldn't pay much over $200. The stands are a huge plus I'll add that, but Doro posted a nice thread on building stands for these which seems very easy to follow.
If the fuses are blown and you're wanting to test them before buying, just take some speaker wire and connect the two ends to complete the circuit. Don't turn it up loud though, the fuse is there for a reason.
As for the seal-test, Wayne explained that one already. The mid woofers should return back to their position after ?? seconds (someone fill in the blank!).

Ben
Is this true for all Mon 10 models? I just picked up a real beat to hell pair of 10 somethings and they have black mounting plated tweeters. The leads come out and are parallel to the ground, as opposed to coming out at about a 45 degree downward angle like the ones pictured. -

If they come straight out they are more than likely SL2000. Better than the Silver face but not better IMHO than the peerless. -

The pics looks like silver to me. so they are the 1000's probably.
I am thinking of them for a bedroom system. My mail system has 2.3's and 1.2s and carver amazings but, I thought they might be good for a 2nd system.
Looking on the web on reviews though, people are sying they should be in a bigger room not smaller and love them so I am excited to pick them up.Klipsch The Nines, Audioquest Thunderbird Interconnect, Innuos Zen MK3 W4S recovery, Revolution Audio Labs USB & Ethernet, Border Patrol SE-I, Audioquest Niagara 5000 & Thunder, Cullen Crossover II PC's. -
How small of a room are you talking about? They do like a little room to breathe. But an average sized Master Bedroom should suffice if they have a wall to themselves.

My bedroom is 18X13. Does anyone know the hight of them? I have to take my honda pilot into the shop and will have a loaner pickup truck want to make sure they will fit inside the cab.Klipsch The Nines, Audioquest Thunderbird Interconnect, Innuos Zen MK3 W4S recovery, Revolution Audio Labs USB & Ethernet, Border Patrol SE-I, Audioquest Niagara 5000 & Thunder, Cullen Crossover II PC's.

They should fit fine in the cab. They are 28 x 16x 11 1/2

Perfect!!! medium size. If they sound as good as everyone says they do, and if they are in good shape, i might put them in the living room on the McIntosh 2105. Hummmmm.... Great now i have to think what amp to put with them. lol. I have the adcom 555 .. or the mcintosh 2105 to put on it. I was going to go check them out last week, but got called in to work. I told him for the price (50 bucks) I'd take them as long as no frozen drivers. I emailed him to let him know I couldn't make it, how about the weekend, and he emailed me back that I wasn't interested."They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

I picked them up. The do have a little pealing on the cab's but not bad at all. He didnt have anythign to hook them up with but for the $ i just got them anyway. I tore my rotator cuff and had the surgery on it a few weeks ago so I am waiting for help to get my amp upstairs to hook them up and take a listen.Klipsch The Nines, Audioquest Thunderbird Interconnect, Innuos Zen MK3 W4S recovery, Revolution Audio Labs USB & Ethernet, Border Patrol SE-I, Audioquest Niagara 5000 & Thunder, Cullen Crossover II PC's.

messiah, I am sorry that you didnt get them. When he emailed me last week he said he had someone in line before me. I got an email last night from him saying the person never showed up so if I want them they were mine. I didn't know you were interested in them. If I did, I would have not picked them up.
I have not listen to them yet. The guy had his kids put it in my car for me since I cannot lift right now. I will say this though, for the $ of them back then, you think the finish would be nicer on them. My old JBL L150, 100's and old sansui's had nicer finishes on them lolKlipsch The Nines, Audioquest Thunderbird Interconnect, Innuos Zen MK3 W4S recovery, Revolution Audio Labs USB & Ethernet, Border Patrol SE-I, Audioquest Niagara 5000 & Thunder, Cullen Crossover II PC's. -
Hey man, don't sweat it. It's cool. Hopefully they are in good working order. He told me he should have sold them for 150 a year and a half ago, but didn't know he wouldn't be using them again. Kinda didn't make sense, but for the price I figured what the hell. These things happen with CL. Thanks and again i am sorry.
On a different note, my friend came over and I got my Mcintosh 2105 up on them. My system is in the basement with the 1.2's and the 2.3s and carver amazings. I have this right now in the living room. The only other speaker I have heard in the living room is Vandersteen 3A's ( i regret selling them dearly although people tell me the 2 ci's and ce are not far off from the 3a's but, the 3 a's are a bit more rare) Enough about my own stupidity.
1st impression. they are NOT the Vandersteen in that room but, there is one hell of a price difference ( I think the 10B's were 700 or 800 in like 1980 ish? Correct me if I am off on this and the Vandersteen 3a's were $3200 in the early 90's so.... 2nd impression. There is a lot of bass for 2 6" woofers and a passive. That is a passive in there yes? On or off the stands the bass was solid. Vocals were good but the highs could use a hair more refinement. I take it RDO 194 would fit the bill here? No popping on the drivers and I did a quick test with some Ray Lamontagne repo man. So far so good. I can see why people have the love for them that is for sure. I can definitely hear the potential in them with some possible mods to them.
Time to look about upgrading. I need 6 194 rdo's and a 6511 ordered whats 2 moe tweeters LOL. i think they might be staying!Klipsch The Nines, Audioquest Thunderbird Interconnect, Innuos Zen MK3 W4S recovery, Revolution Audio Labs USB & Ethernet, Border Patrol SE-I, Audioquest Niagara 5000 & Thunder, Cullen Crossover II PC's. -
The Monitor 10 unloved ugly sisters that I have sing like birds. I put electricity to them this afternoon. Pretty good for a pair of speakers that look like they went down a small flight of stairs. How did they get this beat and none of the domes are pushed in, or any damage to any other drivers has incurred? Amazing. Great garage speakers for someone.
-
Cool man! Good to hear they aren't toast. Yep, retail was 369 per so about 740 per pair. Also yep that it's a passive. If you're upgrading do the caps too "They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

You know this but.....
The SL1000 was silver, Peerless were black and both had the same 45deg lead orientation. As far as Monitor 10 model vs actual tweeter? That can be all over the place. It's the worse lineup to be aged or gauged in regards to drivers and alignment.
If it looks like a dead fish eye, is black and the leads are as described(horizontal), you have a SL2000.
The MON7 was what turned heads in reviews but the MON10 is what reviewed and sold enough volume to put Polk Audio on the official map of audio. My first pair of Polk loudspeakers were MON10B(SL2000) in 1985....and I had finally reached hi-fi, for me at least.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. ok so the ones I have then are the SL1000. is the RDO 194 the replacement? I would like to upgrade them. i think they are worth itKlipsch The Nines, Audioquest Thunderbird Interconnect, Innuos Zen MK3 W4S recovery, Revolution Audio Labs USB & Ethernet, Border Patrol SE-I, Audioquest Niagara 5000 & Thunder, Cullen Crossover II PC's.

NO.
No offense Ernie, seriously, but it's been said a million times.
The RD-0194 is NOT a drop in replacement for the SL1000 or Peerless style tweeter without modification to the cabinet. I've only seen one Polkie actually modify the cabinet over the years.
My suggestion is to look for some Peerless tweeters if you want an "upgrade" sonically or sell them now.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -

A copy should be cheaper IMO and you can still buy a Peerless. One, they didn't manufacturer it or have they been "....searching for years....". It's a replica, probably Chinese and they picked up the stock or contract but it's spot on visually. I could be wrong but I bet it doesn't sound like the original at all.
If you don't like them, I'll buy them from you minus the shipping as I'd like to get them tossed to QA @ Polk HQ just out of curiosity.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player.
