Looking into getting one in the next month or so. Been shopping around and it seems Martin's are some of the best. I'm looking at a 68" with about 50+lbs at 28". I shot compound for a long time, too easy, I want something with more of a challenge and seems longbows are the most difficult and challenging.

I have an old Ben Pearson Cougar at 45#. The long bows are a work of art but are tough on older shoulders and hands. A 50# will give you a workout for sure. There are a lot of used ones out there for decent prices that have not seen much use.

Yeah, I've been checking ebay and craigslist daily. Some decent deals on used but I might just buy new from a local shop, OC Archery.

Top of my list right now is the Martin Viper, most likely same as yours 45#'s. Not quite sure yet though, I might try and shoot a 50# just to see if I can do it, without major shakes.

I haven't shot a long bow in about 40 years. It was just a 20# target bow, but I was only about 9 years old. It was one of the most enjoyable bows I ever shot, I liked it much more than recurves. But for hunting, especially now, I'll stick with a compound. Shakes should not be much of a problem as you should never be holding it at full draw. Not sure how you shot your compound, but you will want to shoot instinctive with the long bow. Draw to full and release all in one fluid motion. I think you are going to enjoy it.

I've only shot a long bow enough times to realize what a fantastic invention the compound bow is! Total respect to those that shoot the long bow!

I totally agree with DKG on this. While the Long Bow is cool it is extremely hard to shoot in comparison to a compound bow.

    Fun as heck though.

Why can't we talk about firearms? I'm not trying to start any trouble, just curious.

Aside from the ability to bar us from talking about whatever they want for whatever reason, there really hasn't been any rationale behind the rule.

Its just funny the infinite number of inanimate objects that can be used to injure or kill someone that we talk about here, but God forbid someone wanted to talk with other Polkies who enjoy shooting sports (which many of us do).

Yes, I'm thread crapping to make a point. Sorry.

I enjoy shooting as well....every week.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
