Another good one I watched a bit ago was called "Suspect Zero". As well as "Sunshine".

I have been finding lots of actually decent B movies that have to have a decent plot because they dont have the draw of big names to bring in cash.

That said you also have lots of horrible B movies......and I run into those sometimes too

I just caught a pretty good flick - Outsourced - which I guess the TV is based on....I think the TV show blows, but the movie was surprisingly good.

society has been making movies for many years now. the 'ole adage "it's all been done before" comes to mind. i think it's tough to come up with original ideas anymore. same goes for video games.

besides that, as we mature we find the way we rate movies changes dramatically. ever watch poltergeist lately? watched it as a kid and it was the definitive scary movie in my opinion. watch it nowadays only for a good laugh.

I don't really have an opinion about the quality of movies, but bobman, this is classic:biggrin::biggrin:

Agaain, there are about a billion more movies than the 4 per week that you hear advertised by the major studios. The major studios are trying to make money, adn they do that by catering to the majority of Americans : retards. You want smart cinema, LOOK ELSEWHERE. Everyone keeps mentioning the same nine movies from the past 20 years in this thread about movies, when in the same time frame there have been tens of THOUSANDS of movies made.

A movie like Million Dollar Baby gets turned down twice because the studios dont' think it will make money (they were wrong, but that's not really the point). Avatar gets promoted like crazy because it's pretty and the aforementioned retards FLOCK to pretty flashy films.

We are in agreement bro. Actually,I watch alot of independant films, more story, less flash.

Glad we can agree sometimes ;)

Really it's just sad how many people get lost in the "things used to be better" mindset, be it movies or music or society in general, and in the process they waste not just a part but a MAJORITY of their lives living in the past rather than living in the moment and enjoying everything the world has to offer.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Agreed, I enjoyed that one a lot. My company has a presence abroad, so a lot of that one really hit home for me.

Death at a Funeral (the English/real version) was a barrel of laughs for me.

Run Fatboy Run was a fun/ lighthearted movie you could watch with your wife/gf and still have fun doing so.

Ip Man was a phenomenal martial arts film in my mind.

For mainstream films, both The Hangover and Zombieland made me cackle. I have both those films on BR and have watched them many times and still find them funny.

There's plenty of good stuff out there still in my mind...

I agree there are some real stinkers out there lately, but still lots I do enjoy. Some are clearly better, but in the end, it's all about escaping the depressing news we are all bombarded with lately.

I don't know of the statistics... but aren't there more films being made and released now than ever? On top of that, I also think that WE (human) are becoming less homogenous... so that results in growing niche markets and 'alternative lifestyles' to cater to...

Umm... in short, pick wisely :D
