Hey All.

I just nabbed a set of Polk Monitor 7's in pristine shape on e-bay for $190. They look flawless. I'm going to pickup in person (a 4 hour drive). Wife likes to road-trip anyway.

Did I bid against anybody here on the forum? Curious.
I sniped them with about 4 seconds to go for just a few bucks over the other bidder.

Check-em out:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3032506223&category=14993

I think I paid a primo price - but, this looks like a primo classic Polk speaker.

Please comment.

$190 for a pair of 'pristine' Monitor 7s?? I wouldn't rate that a 'primo' price. Walk into BB or CC and see what you can get for 200 bucks a pair. In terms of bang for the buck, I'd say you got a steal.

Are these Monitor 7Cs?? The drivers look like my pristine Monitor 7Cs, obviously silver coil SL2000s, but the cabinets look different.

I wouldn't let mine go for $200, unless the kids hadn't eaten in a week or so.

Well, yesterday, I got them. Woohoo. They were exactly as described - PRISTINE. They are the original monitor 7 (not the 7C). They do have the SL2000 silver coild tweeters.

We drove 3 hours to pick them up to save on shipping expense. My wife enjoys the roadtrip. Anyway, she has a bit of a lead foot and picked up an additonal $75 expense in the form of a speeding ticket. He got her with radar going the opposite direction and then turned a U-turn to catch her. Sigh. Oh well. Better her than me.

o.k. Got a question here, the sevens that I have say they are the b model. The ones that you just picked up have the sl 2000s
and you think that they are the original monitor 7's. Now riddle me this, I was under the impression that the originals had the peerless driver and the b and c model had the sl 2000s or did just the c model offer the sl's. Can someone enlighten me here?

I have no idea which model I have.
THe s/n plate just says 7 (not 7B or 7C).
It does have the silver coil tweeter.
The manual (yes, each speaker came with one) says they are 4 ohms and 100Watts. The manual just says Monitor 7.

So, I have no idea what I truly have.
It was nice to see that the s/n's of the speakers were consecutively numbered.

Usually if you pull a driver, it will have a stamp on the back stating which model you own. (That is if you want to pull a driver in the first place) It will also have the date they were manufactured which I think is neat to know.
    I have Monitor 5's, Monitor 5b's, Monitor 10b's and a pair of RTA-12c's.
I really love the Monitor series, my favorite Polk's I have heard (which doesn't include SDA, unfortunately)

I think I like the sound of these monitor 7's.
I have them hooked up to an older HK receiver.
With the "loudness" button pushed, they really crank out substantial bass very clear.

Its amazing what one 6-1/2" driver can do.
Especially considering the fact that its probably 20 years old.

The SL2000's are flawless - THANK GOD.

Nice price on the M7's. I purchased a pair of 'real close to new' Monitor 5 Series 2 speakers for $225/ pair. That included the original plastic bag, foam and box. They looked as though they never came out of the box. I was happy to pay that and what great speakers they are when driven by a Carver CM-1090 Integrated amp.

I was thinking that $190 was a good price until I saw a "dented cabinet" monitor 7 go for $80.

    They sound great though.

I think there is something to big cabinets.
There was a reason that they were big before - acoustically.
Today's smaller cabinets just don't provide the same full sound.

Its amazing what one 6-1/2" driver can do.

I can understand why you like those M7's.

Besides the M5 Series 2, I also own the Monitor 10 Series 2's I bought new in '91. Add two 6 1/2" drivers, a 10" sub bass radiator, soundstage and imaging. Not bad. I'm driving those with an Adcom GFA-7700. I still got 'em. Maybe the RTi12's will eventually be the speakers to replace them. Maybe.
