I am looking to get a back up HTR if one of the separates goes out for repairs.

What is the experience with the Pioneer Elite line. They certainly offer more for less....but I do believe that you get what you pay for.

A particular model under $1,000?

thanks

I got the SC-27 about 8 months ago and really like it for its SQ (both HT and 2channel) and for the fact that it can be networked. Below is a couple of recent threads that discuss more features and cost of different models that you may find useful.

there's a lot of people here that like their Pioneer Elite AVRs.. Several huge threads of the SC-05/07 and SC-25/27 as well as the other elite AVR models.

I have a SC-25 and love it for HT and the small amount of music i play on it

If it's just a back-up, why not pick up a few years old 5.1 Pioneer Elite HTR? They seem to be built well and very reliable, and I've seen older 5.1 ones go for under $300 in excellent shape.

great gear. The newer stuff is the ones with the Ice amps that are fantastic. Never have had a problem and would highly recommend.

I can recommend the 49TX as I have one. You will not be disappointed. It is a powerful avr and is very dynamic. I don't really miss HDMI. I send video direct to my tv and audio to the avr via digital coaxial cable from my computer. The 49TX and 49TXi are almost identicle.

Just a couple more thoughts. If you buy this avr,get the calibration microphone,as this was the first elite avr with auto calibration. I like the backlit remote (complete with stylis) as well. Oh and I hope your in shape,it weighs 65lbs.

The 49tx was a break through receiver. It had a very good amp section and held a 4ohm load very well as I ran a full Dynaudio contour series system with one.
The 49tx is also the first MCACC AIR STUDIO receiver released. It was so damn good and so ahead of it's time.
It comes with a not so good touch screen remote which if you use a universal remote it's a non point. They went for around 3000.00 if I remember correctly new.

Mine is the heart in my HT. See pics, they are well received AVR's. Get one if you can, the SC-05/07 model or the newer 25/27's should do well.
