Pair of RT55i's (Black)

I'm in the process of putting together an 11.2 system, & I need these babies for the height channels. I have a pair of RT35i's but I want a more dynamic and powerful speaker to keep up with 4 RT3000p's and 2 CS1000p's in the front stage.

I know, I know....overkill, but I'm an American so I'm allowed to like things big and loud. :D

I would prefer local pick up, but would consider shipping alternatives if pressed.
Thanks....

There has to be someone out there with a pair of 55s that's willing to let go of them for a good price!?

You could also try some RT7's. I have RT7's and 35's. There is quit a bit of difference between teh 7's and 35's. RT7's sound almost as good as my RT16's. I haven't heard the 55's though.

The 55's are better timbre matched to the RT3000p's & the CS1000p's.From what I understand, Polk has changed speaker construction since these were made, & the newer models might not sound as seamless together with the older models. Also they (55's) have more response in the lower frequencies, so they should be able to keep up better with the RT3000p's.

This wouldn't happen to be you would it?

Funny thing is that I'm originally from the East Coast, but I guess that doesn't do me any good now.
Thanks for your offer though.... I guess I'll just have to keep looking.

I did find this sale in the next state (a few hours drive from me). I'll probably look into it if I don't come across anything closer.

No, the first is not me . Mine aren't listed.

That second ad, man that's a deal. It's like buying the cs400 and getting the rt55's and stands for free.

Just the cost of gas and road trip time to consider, huh.:)

I still like that second ads' price!

Yeah, that price is damn good!

I'm thinking about it....just have to calculate the cost of gas and see if it's even worth it.
It would be a last resort kind of thing if nothing comes up sooner/closer.

I'm not sure if you know what speakers I am talking about, they are not newer. The tweeter and the bass response is the same on the RT7 as the 55. I just thought they might be easier to come by.

Looks like you have some good leads, good luck in your search. That is one awesome system.

My bad, your right. I don't know why I was thinking Lsi series when clearly you wrote RT.:o

I did some research about the 2 speakers and it seems as though they are both highly regarded. After some reading, I'm still leaning towards the RT55's.
I'm a little more familiar with their sound, so I'm kind of going with what I know. But if I cannot get ahold of them I will consider the RT7's for sure.

    Thanks for the info.

There's a pair of 55i's and a pair of 7's on ebay right now, no affiliation with either one.

I'm trying to locate a pair locally first so I can demo/inspect them. If not, then I will have to entertain other options.

    Thanks for the link...

No problem Steelo, I didn't want to sound like you should change your mind. The RT55 have ARC and the RT7 does not, so while they may both have the Trilaminate Tweeter and same Bass response, RT7 is one 7 1/2 inch drive and not 2 6 1/2 of the rt55 so the Timbre would probably be different. Where indeed the 55 does match the RT3000.

I had the guy with the RT55's on e-bay send me an actual pic instead of the stock photo. He sent it from his I-phone, not the best quality, but they look clean.

A guy last week posted RT7's for $75 BIN and best offer, since I did not really need them I offered $50, they sold BIN.

Since buying RT7's I have often stated that I could live with all positions RT7 and a sub. I would think the same could be said of RT55. They both are kind of a floor in a book.

Anyway as an RT fan if you ever can score some RT7's at ba good price, do so. Maybe they would make good bathroom speakers. LOL.

Thanks for the Audiogon heads up classic carl....

I actually found a Black set on ebay from a seller in Los Angeles 2 days ago for the same amount. I'm going to inspect them next Friday and if everything looks (& sounds) good, it's a done deal.

I see the Audiogon set is the RT55i's while the set I'm going to get locally is the RT55's. I wonder what the difference is besides the color of the drivers. Any guess?

Ok I'll take a guess. The 55's have a vinyl finish and the 55i's have wood veneer. Also different drivers and crossover. I'm sure someone else can give you better details but it seems like I've read this somewhere(maybe here)but don't remember where.

    Good luck!!

I bought a pair new a few years back and loved them. I still have mine, but they are packed up in the original boxes. I took photos to list them for sale, but haven't been able to make the decision to let them go. I may have to pull them out and use them in a bedroom setup or something. I also bought 2 pair of RT 25i's and relly like them too.

I tend to want to keep everything:redface:

I wonder if older set is better sounding? Anyway they are both good speakers.

I would bet they sound the same. The specs are identical, I believe. It's possible that the only change was the color of the drivers.
