he did say firm, if they are in good condition and all drivers work no pushed in domes or holes in surrounds I would just hand him 6. it will be interesting to see what caps he used.

He also said something about RDO 190 tweeter upgrades, which I've noticed are a good thing. I'm surprised none of you have said....Oh, thats so and so, I know him.

Those SRS 2's will sing, if given a good amount of power. I bought a set not long ago, and have been amazed by the bass and sound stage they put out. So far the only thing I have done to them is install one RDO 194 in the top position of each cabinet. That did help tame the highs a bit. I have made the decision to go for it, and do a complete upgrade to them with RDO 198's, modified/rebuilt crossovers, Larry's rings and brackets, new binding posts and Dynamat. All this won't be cheap, but if I get anywhere near the improvements to the SRS 2's that I got with the same things done to my 2B's, then it will be well worth it. Good luck on the SRS2 purchase. They are great speakers. :)

I'm surprised you haven't asked him if he's a Polkie. You should, you might find some things of interest about those speakers here. Many of us have posted photos and discussions of our upgrades. Welcome to the addiction.

Welcome to Club Polk. Great story!

My now 16yr old son is like you, having watched me rotate tons of gear over the past years. He's finally demonstrated responsibility and a strong interest and a minty pair of Monitor Series 2 5jr+'s for his room are due to show up here on Tuesday.

welcome to the Club! I hear ya on watching your dad switch stuff all around. I grew up with it and we now have a great time together sharing this hobby. We have more SDA's than we really need in our family:D

I didn't get the SRS 2's today. I want to focus on components first. Thanks to your recommendations I'm looking at Pycroft's Adcom 555 amp and Wasteland's Adcom 555II preamp. I noticed the preamp has a volume control knob. Would I integrate my Yamaha DSP with those other two components to use as a tuner and have surround effects and master volume available via remote control?

While I agree you need to concentrate your resources somewhere, it's been my experience that great gear to drive them comes up far more frequently than great Polk speakers to drive.

Crap. I hear you, but I just got these SDA 2's and I'd like to hear them properly also. Looks like I will be the winning bidder for an Adcom GFA 555 for $237 in 15 minutes...

I agree with inspiredsports on the speakers. Although, if you're not comfortable getting something and you want to try what you just got....that makes sense too.

And, I don't see how it would be possible to use your yammy with the adcom pre. It would have to be one of the other, unless you want to switch everything over to the Yammy when it's movie time...but you might not like the sound after the Adcoms. :D

Didn't win that GFA-555. With one second left someone beat me by 2 dollars with that instant bid automatically crap. Thats not real auction. Ebay sucks.

Sucks for the buyer, but it squeezes every last dollar out for the seller, and of course eBay collects more because of their percentage based commission schedule.

I understand that, but I was there and paying attention at the end. If I'm not given the option of outbidding him right at the close, what the hell is the point of the ending time? Its just, here is my item for sale, make an offer and the highest wins.

    andwings2go,

I know your funding is limited, but I would PM Pycroft. At least with him there would be no funny business, you would get what you were promised, you would probably make a friend on here, you would also probably get good technical info for for the piece you would never get on The-Bay (worth alot more than $), and members on here like to see support of other members. When you have questions in the future (and you will have many) people will remember when you support 'the family'. Perspective from another noob. :D

    My 2 cents...
