I won't bore you with a full blown track by track analasys, but I want to say that this album is worth a listen or eight! It is one great disc; one word of warning though, it will shake the walls and rumble your bones listening to it.:)

My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

Yeah Jesse, I did not go into the album with any expectations. I had not heard one not of it ahead of time either. I did know it's a collection of songs not written by plant from genres like blues, folk, and country.

The production on this album is perfectly done IMO. It's not over produced, which could have easily been done leading to the ruin of the album. I think the songs with Patty Griffin doing background vocals with Plant are perfect. Her voice compliments his so well it's scary. Buy it Jesse, I don't think you will regret it.

Honeydrippers? Kind of a different beast compared to this. It's probably a fair comparison to the "Raising Sand" CD though. In some ways I like this one better though.

Yep! Vinyl is available. I don't think Plant would have it any other way. Now if they would release it on reel to reel at 7 1/2 IPS.:D

Band of Joy was an early group Robert was in with John Bonham. I have a bootleg copy of their early acetates for CBS records in 1966 for a trippy version of "Hey Joe" I believe this and a few others are featured on his solo box set "Sixty Six To Timbuktu".

Prior to that box set release the "Band of Joy" stuff was only available on poor bootleg recordings. I remember the first time I heard them and I thought they were pretty good for a very young no-name band, and you couldn't mistake that voice even then at age 16. If you are familiar with the "Strange Sensation" version of "Hey Joe", Band of Joy's version was very similar.

I assume "Band Of Joy" is a harkening back to his early roots as a young musician trying to make it and perhaps revisiting some of those early influences.

Larry, I should say it will be available on vinyl. It's not yet I guess. I think the release date is in October sometime.

Yeah Brock, I think you are correct. At fist I thought that Plant actually got back together with the original members of The Band of Joy (minus Bonham of course). I then found out this is a collection of covers with the guitarist from Raising Sand.

I have one of the boots with the recording of "Hey Joe", "For What It's Worth" and "Got to Find My Baby" on it. It's a 24 karat gold disc I got about 20 years ago! It says it's a limited edition of 1,000 copies? You never know if that's true or not, but I have never seen another one that's for sure. The audio quality is not too bad actually. About as good as the stuff on "Hiawatha Express" Toasted CD if you've heard that one. I willpost a picture of it and post it. It's pretty cool, a real 24 karat gold bootleg CD. It would never come out today of course.

The recording I have is a copy off of something like you describe in your gold cd. Yes, I have Hiawatha Express somewhere. The recording I remember was sort of scratchy and clicky sounding. At the time I had read the bootleg recording was copied from the original acetate cut at CBS records. I have heard the version on "Sixty Six to Timbuktu" and it's a little cleaner recording.

Yep Larry. Pretty good disc huh? Plant designed the cover(s). Kind of interesting pictures, related to the lyrics in "Monkey" and "Even This Shall Pass Away".
