I n ever trust anyone who claims they've "never had a problem" with something. Sorry. If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Seriously, this is one of the things that once it works, it's pretty reliable.
And from what I understand, it's used in many places. A lot of computers being used as an embedded system (ATM machines, Times Square video displays, etc.) can be restarted over LAN even if there is a problem with the OS.
That's why some cards require you to run a wire to the motherboard's reset pin as if a person was physically pressing the RESET button on the computer. If the OS hangs up, no problem - you can still restart the computer over LAN. I've also seen this used in classrooms.polkaudio RT35 Bookshelves

It's used at many school districts also (coming from experience). It's a very versatile feature."Dr Dunn admitted that his research could also be interpreted as evidence that women are shallower than men. He was saying he's never had a problem with it while using Altiris. Wake-On-LAN is a very simple process, and therefor very problem resistant."Dr Dunn admitted that his research could also be interpreted as evidence that women are shallower than men. In a consumer / personal computing environment, it is FAR less common, and thus many consumer tools are not designed to work with it, that's all I was saying.
The scope of Serendipity's experience (with regards to this specific thing, I'm not criticizing his knowledge) seemed a little limited which was why I said I didn't trust him - if you do enough crap with computers, something ALWAYS ends up giving you trouble, no matter how popular and established it is. When someone says they've never had trouble I feel like they must be dealing with a very specific instance. If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -

Just remember, if you own a Mac, nothing ever goes wrong!

I find that to a large extent, most computer stuff geared for corporate use is MUCH better than the consumer counterpart. For example, I've had two HP printers - a LaserJet 2430dtn and a 2300dn - which I print to with their built-in JetDirect print servers. Never had any issues with them once running.
However, buy a consumer printer like the HP Photosmart series or OfficeJets (I've gone through too many to list) and wireless connectivity is always a problem, they jam, can't take certain paper, etc.polkaudio RT35 Bookshelves
