They're absolutely worth $35. I would get them quickly. Average price for these depending on condition is always >$50. They would make a great starting point for a budget 2 channel system or you could flip them for a profit.Home TheaterRTiA5 - CSiA6 - FXiA6 - PSW650 - Pioneer Elite SC-55 - Carver AV-505 - Sony 46" 120Hz - Monster HP 2400 - Xbox 360 - Playstation 32 ChannelPolk RTA 15TL - Harman Kardon HK3485 - HK DVD48 - Signal Cable IC's and speaker cables

How would they compare to say Infinity Studio Monitor 185's or Primus 162's? Both are currently in use in my stereo system but would happily replace them for something better.
I realize they are bigger than both but still plan to put them on my desk (~1ft from back of wall and oen would be directly in a corner more than likey). Would that create any problems?
Would be driven by a Denon 1610.

I've never listened to the speakers you mentioned so I can't comment. If you didn't like them then you could easily get your $35 back if not more.
As for putting them on your desk I think that would be overkill, they would be better on stands.Monitor 7C's With Tubes -

Yeah, however stands are not an option in that room. I might pick them up just for the hell. Worst case I get my 35 bucks back later.
Keep any comments coming. Thanks!"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
If you get them I'm betting you'll find another room . If those showed up on CL in my neck of the woods I would of snatched them up and I don't even need them. $35 is a steal for quality vintage speakers such as these.Monitor 7C's With Tubes

lol...well if I never hear them I dont know to jump on them next time. Plus I have only heard my Monitor's and from my understanding the older ones are much much better.
Plus since I am at work right now there really wasnt anything I could do until I get off anyway.

I emailed him areound 1:30am this morning and he called me around 1:00pm this afternoon wanting me to come up and buy them now. I did.
I didn't see the thread until I got home a couple of minutes before my post.

No worries mate, no feathers ruffled on this end. Money is tight right now so they were probably a pipe dream on my end anyway. I am quite new at the vintage stuff and if nothing else glad they went to a local forum member. I am sure there will be more stuff like this that comes and goes (both on CL and also the forum) so I am not worried.
If nothing else I am learning the valuation of the different series. And I might indeed take you up on that offer, whereabouts in Indianapolis are you at? Like I said I havent heard many vintage Polks as I started my setup with Monitor 60's."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." Congrats on the find, Harry. That is great deal.

I'm in Southport. I've got SDA 1c that belong to Cstmar right now, SDA CRS, SDA 2b, 2a, SRS II, M12b, M4, M5jr, M5, M7, M10, mostly A models but a few bs on the old monitors.
Running SS and Tubes both depending on mood. -

Good Lord! Thats quite an assortment. I might indeed have to come out to hear some of those as I doubt there is another collection like that around.
Also I still see these listed on CL (might even be Cstmar's). Way way way to rich for my blood but figured you might need more vintage Polks

I'm both impressed & jealous at the same time, I had the 5jr's upgraded to 10A's wish I kept the 5jr's and now I'm thinking the 7's would have been a better fit for listening space.
Nice collection by the wayMonitor 7C's With Tubes -

Collection or obsession? LOL! Not sure what causes me to do this. I try to get all the models and variants in all the different finishes. They seem to add up and multiply like gremlins. -

If nothing else I know who to ask for opinions on how they sound and also who to ask if they are "bored" with any of their vintage stuff lol...."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." A little of both I would say, I veered toward the obsession end of things recently and was able to nip it in the bud. At one point in a 2 month period I amassed a "Collection" of 4 Receivers & 5 sets of speakers. I am now down to 1 receiver, a set of speakers & CDP and feeling good about it.Monitor 7C's With Tubes -
lol... I also take consolidation in the fact my wife is taking me to my favorite Chinese restaraunt tonight and also to Frys (and I didnt even suggest it)......"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." Well I finally got a chance to hear these this morning on some decent amplification. Low volume of course as they're in the office apartment. When I picked them up yesterday he had them on a RCA cheapie surround receiver putting out an over abundance of white noise on the thinnest cheapest wires and cables you've seen. He also had a little powered sub hooked up to them. LOL! He was hustling big time on CL. I had him turn off the receiver and the sub was bleeding down. Busted him trying to get bass from the M5s on the crappy RCA.
When I tried removing the grills it was tough and I had to be careful to remove them. He said they hadn't been removed in 3 years or more. The problem was the pegs were mostly broken off and he'd velcro'd the grills on and used glue. Last night when I replaced the grill pegs I noticed his "3 year old glue wasn't completely dried on the velcro. LOL!
Anyway, they're a nice M5 now that they're cleaned up and brought back to original form.
Cabinets are very good on them, grill frames and cloth excellent now that I've got his glue removed.
I'll retire them to the back room for now with the other M's and bring them out as needed.
They're a good typical M5 w/SL-2000 tweeters.
Also typical CL find. It always gives me a laugh when an amateur hustler gets in over his head and lies through his teeth trying to make a sale on something he knows little about.
He had his condo garage lined up with Goodwill treasures he was peddling. Oh well, I got another pair of Polks to play with anyway. I like messing with them and it's good relaxation for me. -

lol...I can just picture that scene in my mind and it gave me a good chuckle this morning..."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
I was in a big hurry to start with. I had to be back on the southside to get my son off the school bus at 3:45 at the latest and he was at 79th and Keystone. I knew it was going to be a rush with the construction on 465 in his area.
He kept tryint to sell them after I told him I'd take them. Nice middle aged asian gent that should have been selling magazines door to door instead of hustling CL.
I got back with 5 minutes to spare. LOL! -
At least they are working sonically, They are in better hands nowMonitor 7C's With Tubes

Harry, You have the Polk Monitor Rescue Center. Glad you were able to fix them up.

Parts don't last long around here. So many of these old monitors have seen better days.
I lost over 30 pairs of monitors two years ago june in the floods. I had 4 1/2' of water in the barn and in my house. I also lost all the pro gear and anything else on the floors. It's a shame.
