First impressions of the SRS 2's I just bought

As a lot of you know I have just done a set of SDA 2B's, upgraded to tl, and they were in the break in period. I was VERY pleased with the change, and was putting as many hours as possible on them to reach that 200-300 hour mark. Well, then a set of SRS 2's came up on the market here local to me. Of course I had to have them! I picked them up on Saturday morning, brought them home, and put them in place of the SDA2Btl's. My very first impressions were favorable. Bass is wonderful with those 15 in. PR's. High's were good, although with some extended listening I was feeling the same feeling as with my old SDA 2A's before the tweeter change. The SRS 2's have the same SL 2000 tweeter. I did not feel the tweeters were quite as harsh as the 2A's, but listener fatigue was apparent. The mids seemed fairly good. The sound stage will take some tweaking to get the placement right. All in all, they are good speakers. Compared to my recently done 2B's I'd rather listen to the 2B's. In all honesty. I was expecting what I found with the SRS 2's after reading several posts about them here on CP. With a upgrade to the tweeters and crossovers to TL status, plus all the other tweaks (Binding posts, Retainer Rings, Dynamat, and mortite) these speakers should be much more pleasurable to the ears. I'll put the 2B's back in service today, and start the upgrades on the SRS 2's. Hoping to get Ben to do a tl upgrade to the crossovers, and hoping Larry will do another run of rings soon.

I'm installing the rings now and they are not a plug and play on the SRS2. I went into it a bit in my SRS2 thread. Can't wait to hear the difference, if any.

Thanks Gordon. I've been keeping up with your rebuild on the SRS 2's and have learned a lot from what you have been through. Thank you for posting your thread. It will be very helpful to me, I'm sure. Can't wait to get these puppies done, and enjoy the music. If the improvements are close to what I've experienced with the 2Btl's, I will be one very happy camper. :)

I was a bit underwhelmed with my SRS2's as well. I had spent the prior 3 years with my upgraded 3.1TL's and was quite used to their sound. The 2's just did not have the quick, tight bass the 3.1's had. The SL 2000 tweets did'nt help, nor the nasty polyswitches that were really limiting the high end.

With the TL upgrade done, I am seeing signs of hope. The top end is smoother and the bass is starting to tighten up. When I get the 198 tweets installed, I'm sure the whole package will come together.
