well since im new here and this is the polk site i should probubly tell the tale of these!

ive had alot of old gear but i havnt had much polk stuff, a few loners here or there i trashpicked or whatever and i really wasnt that impressed with polk stuff to be honest, than i got the 10as.......

i met a guy at a garage sale that said he had some old gear in his closet that was taking up room. he told me i could just take the stuff cause he needed the room, so i went to his place and in the closet with a bunch of other random old stereo stuff (i took it all hehe..) there sat a PRISTINE pair of original 10as. he told me he bought them new in the 70s and only used them for a short time cause he thought they were too big., i got them home and within the first 10 minutes after hooking them up they became my main speakers in my rig! i have had hundreds of speakers over the years but these really stand out! they sound absolutly FANTASTIC!!! and powerful too! i got them on my marantz 2270, witch is a real slammer, and these polks can take the power full tilt! i am now a beliver! polk is awsome!:)

There are two pills you can take, the red and the blue one. If you take the blue one you won't remember ever buying Polks. If you take the red one all of your money will be taken from you. Choose wisely.

    Congrats. Welcome to the forum.

HEEheehee, Good one Larry. I know for a fact that some older trailers were wired with aluminum cable. Prone to fires if overloaded.
Glad he managed to save the 10's, though.

Take care of them and enjoy.

I was first exposed to the "awesome" sound of the 10A's when I found a mint condition pair at Goodwill. Not quite for free but close. Knowing Polk's reputation for building quality speakers, I jumped at the opportunity to buy them. After attaching them to my Marantz 2238B I knew that Polk's reputation for quality is deserved. I now have them playing through a Pioneer SX1010 and the extra wattage makes them sound even better.

I have the Marantz set up with Polk monitor 7A's now so I could experience that speaker after reading the many posts on CP. Both with the Peerless tweeters and both excellent.

    PS

I had no idea what Peerless tweeters were or how good they are until I started reading the posts on this forum. Thank you guys and gals for confirming I was very lucky to come across these speakers.

By the way, I'm back into vinyl because of this place. That's another story I'll save for later.

Congrats. IMHO the 10a's are one of the best speakers polk ever made. They truly are a gem, and to find a pristine set like you got is great. And for FREE!!! WoW!! Nice! :)

Congrats!!!!, they are great speakers and I echo Devani with regards to the pic with regards to the POLK logo. In most case they are at the bottom of the grill, in my case they are on the cab itself right below the grill.

Welcome to the M10 club. I understand the sentiments of finding Polk's in unusual circumstances. Found my set of M10b's at Goodwill for $32 bills. While not exactly free, or in as nice of shape as yours. They still were a bargain, and will be worth the effort once I restore the cabinets. The top and bottom each one suffered from the previous owners abuse. And the grills used for a scratching post by a cat. I am currently removing the old speaker grill cloth and one thing is for sure, the staples are a bear to remove. Enjoy the Polks.
