Pet's 10 Commandments...

1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you is likely to be painful.

2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.

3. Place your trust in me. It is crucial for my well-being.

4. Don’t be angry with me for long and don’t lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment, but I have only you.

5. Talk to me even if I don’t understand your words--I do understand your voice when speaking to me.

6. Be aware that however you treat me, I will never forget it.

7. Before you hit me, before you strike me, remember that I could hurt you, and yet, I choose not to bite you.

8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I’m not getting the right food, I have been in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old or weak.

9. Please take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old.

10. On the ultimate difficult journey, go with me please. Never say you can’t bear to watch. Don’t make me face this alone. Everything is easier for me if you are there, because I love you so.

Take a moment today to thank God for your pets.
Enjoy and take good care of them.

Life would be a much duller, less joyful experience without God’s critters.
We do not have to wait for Heaven, to be surrounded by hope, love, and joyfulness. It is here on earth and has four legs

    My boy is 10. I think about #1, #9, and #10 a lot.

I think about #10 on a regular basis. I was stuck at work when Buddy passed away. My fiancee was at least able to be there for him.

Yes, I think about #10 alot too as my cat is 15. I made the mistake twice of not wanting to be there when the time came years ago for two of my cats. Now i know it was selfish of me and vow never to do it again, no matter how hard it will be.

In my case, it wasn't a selfish thing. We had every reason to believe that he was going to pull out of it. He just took an abrupt turn for the worse and then died that day. I wish I had taken the day off instead of assuming that it was all going to work out...

Reminds me of the poem "A Dog's Prayer"....
    A DOG'S PRAYER

Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.

Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.

Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.

When it is cold and wet, please take me inside, for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements, and I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth... though had you no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land, for you are my god and I am your devoted worshiper.

Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger.

And, beloved master, should the Great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest... and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands.

Two of our cats were in my arms when they died. Wouldn't have it any other way. With them until the end (wipe eyes). :(:o

I just put my 16 y/o cat down last week.... It was a very difficult decision and it broke my heart. Buried him in the backyard so he is close by.

Yep, there have been times I have thought of working at a vet clinic but then I think about the putting to sleep of pets that aren't wanted or badly injured and I know that not only would I be upset about them being put to sleep but also be upset about the folks that don't take care of or even cause some of the injuries of their pets. Eventually blood would be spilled and it wouldn't be mine :(

I just reserved it online at my library ! Sounds Great !:)

Enzo knows he is different from other dogs: a philosopher with a nearly human soul (and an obsession with opposable thumbs), he has educated himself by watching television extensively, and by listening very closely to the words of his master, Denny Swift, an up-and-coming race car driver. Through Denny, Enzo has gained tremendous insight into the human condition, and he sees that life, like racing, isn't simply about going fast. Using the techniques needed on the race track, one can successfully navigate all of life's ordeals. On the eve of his death, Enzo takes stock of his life, recalling all that he and his family have been through: the sacrifices Denny has made to succeed professionally; the unexpected loss of Eve, Denny's wife; the three-year battle over their daughter, Zo
