Sorbothane is available in different densities from the manufacturer for up to several hundred if not thousands of pounds supported by 4 & 6 inch square discs. The maximum damping properties are matched to the weight capability of the specific piece & work best within that range.

You are correct sir!!! Sorry I didn't make that clear.

I was mostly talking about what you find in most audio store accessories offerings.

Well, took the SDA's out of the rig today and put the Spires back in. Time to start some further upgrades. Will be installing rings and making some basic wiring changes to eliminate the splices which cannot be of the highest quality! Also will do a permanent install of a real binding post to take advantage of the Dreadnaught. Lots of glue on the back of the binding post cup!!

I know DK eliminated the second set of binding posts, preventing future bi amp/wire in the future. I don't plan on either, but wondering about risk of not being able to sell them that way in the future.

I've had the SDA in the rig for awhile now and forgot how nice the Spires actually sound.

Gordo, can you describe the differences you hear?

Also, I was going to do the tweak that DK put up on installing a good (Cardas) binding post in place of the socket. Jesse talked me out of it because I wouldn't be to use a non-common ground amp and use the AI-1 cable. I'm glad I didn't as I did get a non-common ground amp and with DK's baked potato tweak on the AI-1 box I'm very happy.

I think Larry (TFLF) installed two new binding posts to replace the SDA cable socket.

Joe, the Spire is a much more refined and accurate speaker IMO. Instruments are clearly locatable in the sound-stage where I've thought the SRS2 was smeared. Attack and decay seems to be more defined and extensive on the Spire.

The Spire does not have the dynamics in the bottom compared to the SRS2. The SRS2 is clearly superior to the Spires in this area. However, when I turn on the subs, game over. The mids on the Spire are it's strong point and do not disappoint. The detail seems to be hiding on the SRS2.

If all the upgrades were complete on the SRS2 at this time, the Spire would win out hands down. I've barely scratched the surface on my upgrade path and look forward to it for a fairer evaluation.

I'm a installing a single binding post to utilize the Dreadnought, while keeping the original P/B connector to allow use of the AI-1. Of course, I'll also be replacing the stock binding posts along with the jumpers with something a bit more robust than the stock plastic pieces.

I hope you will continue to update us on the comparison as you improve the Polks.

I'm a subscriber to your thread.

Thanks for the update Gordo. When I had update/upgraded my crossovers and replaced the stock posts with Cardas posts, DK's Dreadnought was out yet. As I said in a previous post the DK's baked potato tweak to the AI-1 was a jaw dropper and very, vey easy and very, very cheaps i.e., 10 sheets of heavy duty aluminum foil.

If I ever get around to making a Dreadnought, I'll be doing what you did above.

Today I installed the rings and tweeter Arc's in my left speaker. It took about 3 hours. My hat's off to Larry for such a great idea. But, on the SRS2, be prepared for major metal work.

The PR had to be installed in two pieces and the top half required removal of over half the width of material at the top to clear internal bracing. I ended up using hot glue to secure the ends because there was a ringing/vibration from the loose ends flopping around.

The top two drivers, one dimensional and one stereo, required complete removal of material between the bottom two screws due to more bracing. I thought it much easier to modify the rings then massive amounts of cabinet removal. Again, the ends were secured with hot glue. Stuff is amazing!!!

The tweeter arcs on the top tweeter only required a bit of grinding on the bottom as a result of the same bracing mentioned above. Otherwise a very easy fit! The bottom tweeter required a big compromise. That same bracing was completely covered by bracing. So, I only installed the bottom half of the arcs and reinstalled the stock screw in the top two holes. If they eventually strip, there is enough material to use longer screws. IF someone wanted to remove that much material from the cabinet, they would be a perfect fit.

The right side gets done tomorrow. Enough fun for today! Again, thanks to Larry, fabulous piece of work!!!!!

Hi guy's! Haven't had much to post lately since I've been traveling and doing nothing with the speakers.

Looking at the back of each driver, what is the correct size of the disconnects? 3/16, 1/4, .250 or something else. Just came back from ratshack and I certainly bought the wrong ones, that being I bought the 1/4.
