I sold my S10's...

I can't believe it. I actually sold the first Polk speakers I ever bought new. My mint S10's in black. Ok, I know they aren't the best thing to happen since sliced bread...but the sentimental thing is still there.
I have a buddy that is trying to put together a modest vintage system. Hoping to find a Marantz 2270 or something similar but for the moment is using an old Pioneer setup. For the past couple months, when he found out I had S10's in the closet, he has been asking me weekly when I was going to sell them to him.
Well,...on Monday I told him I would let him have them....told him I trusted him to treat them well and not trash them. I took them to him tuesday...in original boxes with all literature and original sales receipt. I told him to keep them for a couple weeks and see what he thought. I told him that if I sold them to him it would be less than $100.
Well,....today, he said.." They sound so good that even the Deer came out of the woods to listen!" Said he can't wait to get a pair of Monitor 10s. I think he is hinting for me to sell one of my sets, but I really don't think that's gonna' happen. Anyways,..if he liked them, I fully intended to Karma them to him...free (with the condition that I get them back if he ever decides to get rid of them). Well,....he refused to take them for free and (sort of) forced me to take $100. After slight resistance, I accepted (I'll spend it with GG on vinyl).
I kinda feel like I gave up a kid for adoption or something. Even though you might not use something in your system, do any of you have a hard time parting with stuff?

I'm with you completely. I gave a pair of some vintage Yamahas (not the greatest but OK), to my 'own' son for his first system a couple of years ago when he moved away for his first job...and pretty much gave him the same instructions, along with an old Sony receiver I had that I don't use. So are we 'sick' or what?

I'm trying not to get into the habit of "not wanting to part with stuff". That's how people become pack rats...lol
Seriously though, despite whatever "sentimental" attachment you might have towards a hunk of wood, metal, rubber and paper...all it is, is a material possession. They're better off being used by your friend, than sitting in your closet, unused and collecting dust for the next 20 years. You aren't missing out on much. I've heard S10's, and while they're decent entry level speakers...they're nothing special. Your Monitor 10's and SDA 1C's are VASTLY superior speakers.
I love all of the 2 channel gear I've got now, but when I upgrade, I won't have ANY trouble selling it off.The nirvana inducer-

I hear ya Tim. I have like 18 Polks.
Still won't part with my first real speakers.
Advent Legacy's.
Sounds like they went to a good home though. -
Congrats on letting go. I have a carver pre and carver amp on the right side of my fire mantle hooked to some Monitor 7s with the peerless. One the left of my mantle is a rack with a pioneer receiver hooked to my "first polk" RT 8s right beside the Montors. Why would I do this? I need to find the RT5s and center that go with the RT HT setup for some new project $$$ myself. I even have the white M2s unused in a box that the RT5s replaced. I didn't get them returned before the store went out of business. At least they were free...hmmm maybe I should karma some M2s...

I've let a lot of nice speakers go....I just tell myself if I really want them again I will find them someday once again.....and it's fun letting somebody else dig their awesomeness for a while, especially if you weren't using them
