On paper the Nad should push the towers without a need to bi amp. On the other hand this is a 20+ year old amp and i wanted to know what you guys think before i buy one.

It's a good amp. Try it out, you'll like it.

There is never a "need" to biamp.

Well, it will probably do fine, but most NADs of that age 'should' be re-capped before you throw them into heavy use. NAD has always used pretty cheap capacitors and they just don't hold up. Its really a good idea for all gear that is more than 15 years old, especially amps.

They caps in my NAD 7175PE receiver look terrible and will all be replaced shortly.

I completely disagree with Bill aside from the fact you should check under the hood on anything vintage. That's just standard practice as far as I know. I've owned many pieces of NAD gear and never replaced, or had to for that matter, capacitors.

    That's a great amplifier.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Well, you sure can read about all the people (including myself) who have had problems with the cheapo caps that NAD used if you just search around a little. When you do go poke your head around, you will almost certainly find caps with shrunken covers, bulging tops, or leaking bases. You will also tend to find a few cold solder joints.

My 3140 needed to be re-capped back around 2005 and I needed to fix some other solder joints just this year before I sold it. My 7175 needs power supply caps now, especially some of the smaller ones. I had a 317 for a short time that had bad caps in the protection circuit and that was after only 10 years or so.

I'm not saying it is a must or that every single cap will need to be replaced, but like you said, you should have a look at the very least, and then re-check every year or so.

Hey man, never doubted your experience, just relayed mine. Sorry for your luck. I've been around as well, but thanks for the heads-up.
