Never knew this. Pretty sexy looking speaker, didn't know Sony ever put out anything like this.

For Sale is a rare and highly sought after pair of Sony SS-M7 speakers. These were designed by a top Polk Audio designer hired away by Sony to create an audiophile quality speaker for Sony. (He is now chief designer for Boston Acoustic/Snell).

How many speakers do you own? lol I always see you asking about different models is why I ask. I love using jaxed (mashed) to look at vintage gear. Well if those speakers sound as nice as they look I think you'll be happy with them.

I have a HT setup and a 2 channel (Check my sig) and that's it. I have been, for some time, looking to try some different speakers out - hence the questions. I plan on going perhaps on Friday to check them out.

Here is some more info about the rare Sony ES speaker series. Turns out, it is not BS about the Polk Engineer.

Those should be a nice sounding speaker.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

Very nice! I've always wanted a pair of those, and there was another model that they made awhile ago... some huge floor standers. Forgot the model number, though.... maybe i'll find them later.

That's interesting. I just saw a Sony self system here in China that had bookshelf speakers whose cabinets looked a bit like LSi7s and whose drivers looked like something from Energy? They actually sounded surprisingly good for a mid-fi executive shelf system? Go figure.

They were 'unlike' any Sony speaker I've seen in the last 5 years. And the system is not available in the U.S.

Look forward to hearing the result. I these Sony ES speakers back in the 90's at the Sony Outlet stores but never paid attention to them. I would love to hear how they sound.

I have a pair of the SSK90EDs and also the center channel speaker of that line. The SSK90EDs are excellent speakers. They were a limited high end run and I believe someone from B&W from England engineered them. If you can find a pair buy them, you won't regret it.

It's a smaller industry than you think....engineers bounce around fromplace to place. Polk had Peter....ugh, can't recall his last name from KEF for a few years. I have his signature on some literature of some products he helped design.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.
