polk SDA 1

Do you guys think these are SDA 1B's or 1C's?

If they are 1C's I will be getting in my car.

    Definitely 1B's.

1C's had cloth sides, and wooden end caps. These are all wood cabinets...

    Definitely 1B's.

They're probably worth $350...I'd talk him down to $300 though. The 1B's can be modified to use the RD0-198's too.

    Thanks Curt, I thought so.

I would buy them but I really don't need them right now.

I didn't realize they could be modified to use the RDO-198's

    1B's for sure.

You'd have to search around for the specifics, but I know there are at least 1-2 people on here that have TL'd 1B's.

This is on advantage(debatable, obviously) that the 1B's have over the 1C's. The consensus is generally that the 1C's are a much better sounding overall speaker. The 1C's can't be TL'd though.

Curt is this the upgrade you are referring to? I believe the above mod is for 2Bs as well as the pin/blade CRS+.

    No.

I forget who it is...but there are a couple people around who have TL'd 1B's. I believe the mod is essentially the same as TL'ing a 2B. The 2A's are also capable of being TL'd...mine are going to be getting TL'd a little later this year.

Easy enough to "TL" a 1B. Change the crossover so that instead of the 4.4uf cap, there's 5.8uf; and buy four RDO198s.

I went half-way: changed the capacitance, and bought TWO 198s. The two go in the upper position.

    It's a long read...

My 1Bs are set up to use the AI-1 as well as the stock interconnect. (either, not both at the same time) The single-conductor SDA interconnect doesn't sound as good as the stock wiring, though. The SDA signal seems to be weaker.

Thanks for the offer! I just may have you do that if he will go down in price.
I can't imagine spending $350 if I were going to do all the mods, which I would.

    Joe, that's what I was referring to.^^^^

It's been determined that essentially the same mod could be performed on the 2A's. To the best of my knowledge, nobody has done it yet though. For the benefit of all future SDA tweakers, I think I'm going to guinea pig my 2A's for this experiment.:) Should be fun. They're getting full XO mods first, and keeping the 194's. Then I'll be further modding the XO's, and adding the 198's after I get a good feel for how they sound modded, with the 194's.
