Monitor 50's to RTi4 or Rti6 a step up?
So I've been evaluating the sound on my fronts and after reading a great review on the RTi A4 home theater setup, I am really am itching to upgrade/update my fronts.
So the question for your Polkies that would know: is a move to the RTi4/6's a jump up, back or sideways when moving from the Monitor 50's? Between the ARC, bass port, updated crossover and tweeter heat sink, am I going to hear a noticeable difference?
Thanks in advance for anyone who can clear this up!

The 50's are going to have more bass output than either the 4's or the 6's...but in a HT setting with a sub(I see you're using two of them) that won't really make any difference.
IMO, it would be a step up. I'd go for the 6's though myself. The 6's are an excellent bookshelf. I regret selling mine. The nirvana inducer-

the review you link features the RTiA1, not the rti4 or rti6, so you may be throwing more into the mix than what you state, making the comparison even harder.
I have the monitors, rti's and rtia series and love the sound of each, so I would say your 50's are not in need of an "upgrade" due to the fact they have great potential in a well set up room/system. your esentially considering a lateral move imhoSamsung pn64f8500

Curved sides and numbering (i.e., RTi8 = RTiA5) - drivers and specs are the same -
i like my 50's

Wouldn't be a mind blowing upgrade IMHO, you could always get a pair of Monitor 70's and put the 50's as surrounds, lol. If you did that though, you would have to get a CS2 for your center as well, as that CS1 would probably have a hard time keepong up with the 70's. If you are happy with the sound, I would probably leave well enough alone.

I've definitely thought of doing that - I was just concerned if the latest updates/changes/upgrades to their speakers would be a noticeable enough different to warrant the switch. And I may opt for the M60's as I've heard that the 70's are alittle too much....but then again, that's just what I've heard and not experienced! LOL!
I'm already eyeing a CS2 though.Living room:

I would probably recommend upgrading to a larger tower in the monitor line vs going to a bookshelf in the RT line. This is just my opinion though and have no facts or experience to base it on. lolFront - RTiA5's
Rear - RTiA3's
Center - CSiA4

I have the 70's in a smallish living room and they are in no way too much, IMHO. The volume knob is your friend, lol. In the end it is you who have to be happy with your purchase, so get what you want.

If you want a pair of rti6 let me know as I have a pair not in use . rti6 is way better than M50 IMO and rti6 are amazing for 2 channel

I love my CS2, as well as my 60's.
I do have a always wonder pit in my stomach for not getting the 70's, but that's curiosity. The 60's I have are bi - amped. I was curious as to those having big surrounds as my experience with surrounds, you really don't need that much speaker, but my issue is probably my reciever and the lack thereof. On the 50's, I always had a wondering if they were actually almost identical to the 40's. If they aren't much of a jump, you will really love the 60's as I have the 40's and they are great, but the 60's are an incredible jump in comparison.
Too, I did audition my 60's with the PSW10 sub on my 2 channel, and they were mind blowing there as well.
FYI, hope that helps.Onkyo TX-NR636
