SMSL makes great DACs and small form factor amps. Not sure I'd want to buy a CD player from them, especially not a slot loader. At this point, rip the music to a drive and stream to a desktop DAC/Amp setup.
(Slot loaders are notorious for scratching discs when they malfunction)

$200 is about average price for those. If you're interested in adopting them and fixing them up, they are worth it. It would be a fun and rewarding project especially being your dads old speakers. He might even get a kick out of it too.
They are probably 1978-1979 with the tag/stub. The tweeter was definitely replaced.
Are both tweeters the same?
If you open them the woofers and the crossovers should both have exact dates written on them.

Re: Thinking about retirement.
Just turned 60, all I think about is retiring now. Wife and I agreed not to retire till the house is paid for about another 4-5 years then work another year to make sure everything is sorted.
