Sony ES receiver EQ settings

I have a Sony V-555Es receiver. As many of you know, this thing has a ton of equalizer setting. I like to play with mine and hear the different dsp modes and eq settings. Unfortunately you can't adjust these using 5.1 input with the sacd, but was wondering what eq settings you guys have had success with. I would like to know all the speakers settings and eq settings for each speaker. I would like to experiment and see what you guys think sounds good to you. I may like things differently and want to compare against the pros. Thanks

What is the model # of your 5 disc DVD/SACD/CD player? How do you like listening to SACD? Is there really a big difference between SACD and regular CD? I am in the process of looking for player like yours any input would be appreciated. NICO

I've got the Sony DVP-NC650V 5 disc DVD/CD/SACD player. I really enjoy it. I like the multichannel SACD format a lot....Probably better than 2 channel stereo... I do believe there is a big difference. The sacd is like surround sound for music.

    http://www.epinions.com/Sony_DVP_NC650V_613157/display_~full_specs

I've seen these players go for $399 all the way down to $200 bucks.... I think they were last years models, but I think you can still find them around....

I have the same receiver that I use for the system in my bedroom and I do not remember what setting I had on EQ, but you have to play with it a lot and experience for yourself (as you said : so many of them). I didn't like DSP when litsenning to music so I turn it off. When I set the EQ for the receiver, I use the GUI off of the Pioneer GR777 as a guide and follow its path to set the low, mid range and high frequency on each of the speaker. I set the dynamic range compression at max for late night movie watching. I don't think my setting number will help you since your set up will be difference, difference speakers too. Here are my speakers : RT 55i, CS350 center and RT-25 rear with the AR 115 sub, I set all speakers at large and send all low frequency below 50hz to the sub. On the SACD, I use the bass management in my Sony 755 SACD/DVD player to set the size, distance and level of the speakers and it sounds great. I'm thinking to give this receiver to my son as Christmas present and get the new Yamaha receiver 5590 as the replacement so I can add the sixth midle rear channel. Don't get me wrong, this Sony ES receiver is a beautiful piece of equipment, very quality built and weight a ton, but I didn't like its design of operation, something is simple and straight like having the bass and treble knob control like the Yamaha will suite me well. Cheers

I think the one I was looking at good guys is the sony 755 and they have it at 249.99. I think I'll pick it up this Fri. What kind of rca cables are you using for the analog connections? can I still use my optical cable for audio on DVD's? I am using monster cable interlink 400's for the 5.1 connections. and yes, you can use the toslink(optical) cable for regular cd's(music) and for audio on dvd's.

How do you like your sony 4es? i heard it was killer.

your system sounds like it will rock. good luck

Nico- where do you live. you must be on the west coast somewhere in cali b/c you have a good guys....?

The Sony DVPNS755V DVD/SACD player is $217.45 including free 2 days shiping at onecall.com. This is a very good player for SACD and powerful performance on video processing (108mhz/12bit) and 194kz/24) for audio. I use the premium monster cable for analog connection and component video, I also use MC for optical and coax connection. Yes you can use the optical cable for DTS and DD sound, but you can't use it for SACD, you have to connect 3 pair of RCA cables for 5.1 input/output, digital outputs does not carry the SACD sound track. AR also offer good cable at lower price than MC, check them out...

peterng- I too have been considering getting a new receiver that has 6.1 or 7.1 decoding and power. I will probably delegate the v555es receiver to my bedroom. I have thought about the denon 4802 or the sony 7es. I really like the touchscreen remotes. I personally have two rm-tp504's.

Another thing...is there anyway to hook up sacd 5.1 to a 7.1 receiver using splitters. So you would split the two rears into 4 rears for the 7.1 hookup. That way you will have 4 surround speakers with sacd music. just a thought....

Thanks for all the input. Capitan to answer your question about my 4ES it's awesome! My polks actually opened up even more than my old strde945. In my opinion I think SONY is making better receivers nowadays with their ES line. I love the built in EQ for all speakers. I'm also located in RESEDA, CA. The good guys store is about 10 min. from my house so I'm always there checking things out. The guy was kind enough to let me listen to 2 channel SACD and WOW! I really like the way they sound. I'm gonna be picking the unit up this FRI. I'll let you guys know how it is. I picked up EPISODE II today at WALLMART for 9.99 killer price! Toys r Us has it for 9.99 on their ad and wallmart matched the price so if anyone of you guys out there like this movie I will highly recommend buying it for this price you do have to bring the ad with you. Talk to you guys soon. NICO

Hey capitan I in your post that you are also interested in getting the 7ES. If you really only like the touchsceen it offers, it's not worth it. I would not pay an extra thousand dollars for just a remote when the 4es almost has the same spec as the 7es aside from the 3 zone as oppose to 2 zone and 10 more watts per channel. I got the 4es and bought the SONY RMAV3000 universal remote for 120. and it's the only remote control on my coffee table and it's

good luck with the sacd player. I know you will enjoy it like I do. I picked up Episode II as well. Haven't had a chance to see it, but I will tomorrow. I know this thing will sound incredible. I got it for $9.99 too. I also picked up Episode I and Bad Company. I watched Episode I today to get myself up to speed. Unfortunaely I am in South orange county. Reseda is about an hour and a half away. Would love to hear your system.

If that's the remote that came with your 555es it might work give it a try when you do end up getting the 4es because the 4es says that it can learn 2 way remotes. If not, I will really recommend getting the RM AV3000. Well, talk to you later let me know how EPISODE II sounds on your system. I watched it tonight and let me tell you it gave my sub and the rest of my speakers a work out on the low end category! Lots of bass in this movie. I saw this movie in the theater and to be honest I didn't feel the bass as much as I did there than in my own living room but then again that's just me. Later NICO

i can't wait to try out Ep II tomorrow...or should I say later today....I may take my remote up to the good guys(that I bought my receiver from) and try it out on one of their floor model 4ES's. That may sway me to getting it. One question....

can you adjust the EQ settings with the rm3000? My remote allows you to adjust all the eq settings and speaker setups etc.....

I know that the rw3000 is learning, but WOW that would be a lot of programming to get it right....

Yes you can. All you have to do is point the 2 remote head to head and push the appropriate button you want to learn. When you decide to get it email me and I will help you program it. The only drawback is that the instruction manual that comes with the remote is not very clear. I learned it by just looking at the unit and playing with it. Happy shopping. NICO
